Interesting! So, instead of brace going OVER the transmission (like the factory did) the Holley torsion bar cross member braces from underneath. I just don't like that it is bolt in, but I guess that aids in getting the transmission in and out of position. I was just quoted about $7,000.00...

I've been considering this swap and just getting everything from Silver Sport Transmissions. Just not sure if they still use the ToddRon crossmember brace or if they built something different. The only thing that makes me hesitate is that I'm not good with sheet metal fabrication.

Yeah, in retrospect it seems to have been easier to have started off with an automatic car. My car was originally a 3 speed on the floor, now it's a 4 speed, but I still want more gears. 5 gears would be nice, but now I'm used to a 6 speed since I also have a Tacoma with a 6 speed.

Looks like you've been doing your homework. Out of curiosity, why did you choose American Powertrain's TKO 600 over SST's? Also, which gear set did you choose? Doesn't American Powertrain have the clutch and brake pedals? Check with them. I thought they had it as part of their kit. If not...

So have you spoken to SST about what all is involved in swapping to a TKO transmission? Does the cross member need to be cut? Obviously, the tunnel will since you're an automatic. Are you going with a hydraulic clutch?

I always appreciate your in-depth analysis on gearing. The formulas are always helpful. I was thinking about transmission swaps too, and came to the same conclusion. The close ratio gears seems the way to go. :)
