Going through boxes of parts that came with a 71 Duster I bought. Got a couple I cannot identify. This car had cruise control, some could be related to that. There could also be some x-brand stuff mixed in, I found a Ford center cap in one box. Thanks for any help! This is the cruise control unit.

I used a 73 harness in my 72. Not too much difference that I remember. I had to add a wire for the passenger door switch, I think. My AC/Heater box is not functional, so can't comment on that, but everything connected. I found the 73 harness in great shape on here from a member for $100 shipped...

I pulled one out of a junkyard. If nothing else pull a heat shield off for your new one. Those headers will be close to your starter. It will all fit, but you have to figure out how to maneuver it into place.

You can reach up under the dash without removing anything and move one wire so both are on the same post. Takes two minutes. If the gauge is fried anyway, why not just do it?

My harness is from a 73, no seatbelt wiring, I just unplugged it from the relay. Maybe 74 is different.

Unplug it. Yes, it is that simple. Its'a connector, not two loose wires.

Unless you have burned wire's, or a bunch of shadetree splices, about the only "R&R" you need to do is remove any corrosion on your connectors and check continuity. Engine harnesses and forward lighting harnesses tend to get crispy over 40 years, those may be due for replacement. Rear lighting...

Long story short, retested and we were losing voltage under the dash. Bypassed the ammeter and it cranks and runs in start but dies if you let off the key to run.
