Mystery parts! Need help with ID!

Going through boxes of parts that came with a 71 Duster I bought. Got a couple I cannot identify. This car had cruise control, some could be related to that. There could also be some x-brand stuff mixed in, I found a Ford center cap in one box. Thanks for any help! This is the cruise control unit.

1972 vs 1973 Dash Wiring Harness

I used a 73 harness in my 72. Not too much difference that I remember. I had to add a wire for the passenger door switch, I think. My AC/Heater box is not functional, so can't comment on that, but everything connected. I found the 73 harness in great shape on here from a member for $100 shipped...

Any recommendations for mini starters on eBay?

I pulled one out of a junkyard. If nothing else pull a heat shield off for your new one. Those headers will be close to your starter. It will all fit, but you have to figure out how to maneuver it into place.

    Ammeter Bypass a Must?

You can reach up under the dash without removing anything and move one wire so both are on the same post. Takes two minutes. If the gauge is fried anyway, why not just do it?

    Key in buzzer relay

My harness is from a 73, no seatbelt wiring, I just unplugged it from the relay. Maybe 74 is different.

    Key in buzzer relay

Unplug it. Yes, it is that simple. Its'a connector, not two loose wires.

    37 hours shop time?

Unless you have burned wire's, or a bunch of shadetree splices, about the only "R&R" you need to do is remove any corrosion on your connectors and check continuity. Engine harnesses and forward lighting harnesses tend to get crispy over 40 years, those may be due for replacement. Rear lighting...

Crackedback relay kit....What a great electrical upgrade!!!

Even with one Nighthawk down and an old bulb in at the moment , I love mine! Lights are brighter than my daily. Very worthwhile on these deer infested Texas backroads. With this kit and both of the Nighthawks in, I would guess I can see half a mile in clear weather with the hi beams on. Hard to...

A friend hooked his coil up backwards...

I won't get back to the car until the owner gets back from vacation in a week. He wanted to install a new ignition switch so we pulled the column and did, it's still out. I wanted to test more first but it's not my car, and he was hellbent on it. While it's out I want to dunk the dash side of...

A friend hooked his coil up backwards...

Long story short, retested and we were losing voltage under the dash. Bypassed the ammeter and it cranks and runs in start but dies if you let off the key to run.

A friend hooked his coil up backwards...

Thanks, I have read a few threads you posted on. Some good info. I had to ask about the coil and ignition modifications. He has a 75 FSM, but man, those multiple page wiring diagrams SUCK! ...there's all the seatbelt interlock crap, too. I think it has been disabled before he got the car, but...

A friend hooked his coil up backwards...

I will have to re-test, but I want to say we got 8.4 cranking. I suspect a bad ground, but not sure what he did under the dash with the ignition switch and toggles for start, fan, and fuel pump. I remember the voltage changed if I turned the cylinder to crank and hit the toggle, vs. just the...

A friend hooked his coil up backwards...

What would it fry, if anything? Trying to help him find out why he has weak spark from his coil and the car won't fire unless jumping the positive coil post to starter relay positive, which we only did once for about 2 seconds just to test. He has the battery in the trunk, and has hooked the...

Testing coil, ignition sytem and components?

Car is running pretty good, but I would still like to know how to test the voltage regulator.

Testing coil, ignition sytem and components?

With it running and probes on pos and neg coil posts I get 8.8-10.8v. I just installed new NGK FR5 plugs last night and gapped at .045 per MSD to start, but I have tried .040 and .035 before with no noticable change. Spark jumps to the intake bolt like a lightsaber from at least an inch away...

Testing coil, ignition sytem and components?

According to the second link, the box is ok. Where do I probe to test the coil while key on and engine off, also with engine running? What readings should I be getting?

    Fusible Link Replacement?

Buy fusible link wire at the store and make your own. Fuses are not a good alternative, Mopar used the link for a reason. The female has a tab in the middle on the top that sticks up. Use a micro flathead screwdriver to depress the tab and it pulls out the back. Here"s what they both look...

    Symptoms of a bad coil?

Been trying to diagnose some issues and thought maybe it would be good info to post for others searching. Not going into my problems in this thread since I have listed them in another thread. Just hoping to come up with a good reference on the subject. Thanks!

    Cleaning fouled sparkplugs?

Yeah, probably overthinking it, but I had a good pro mechanic friend tell me if thet get fouled too many times they don't come back, and I have a set that started sparking at the heads after a few thousand miles of stupid tuning abuse. Always trying to learn, preferably not the hard way...
