Oil leak detection using smoke and mirrors

I've found oil leaks by cleaning the engine, blowing it dry and sprinkling baby powder on the suspect area. Run it and look for a black spot. For Vaccuum leaks, turn on your Burnz-O-Matic torch but't don't light it. Then, slowly pass it over potential leak areas with the engine idling. RPM will...

Magnum Fuel Inj Without the Beer Barrel

Any reason why I can't use the Edelbrolck FI intake manifold (PN 28155) on my Magnum with EQ heads drilled for LA intake? Perhaps (Magnum) accessory mounting problems? Anyone done this?

    Rear main seal

If it's just an occasional drip, just make a support tray and put a disposable baby diaper in it.

Why is oil coming out of these?

Previous owner of my 318 installed Edelbrock intake and valve covers and oil would leak onto the intake. Not as bad as you describe but a PIA nevertheless. Turned out the valve covers were hanging up on excess metal on the intake. No leaks after I ground away a bunch of material. Perhaps by...

    Oil pooling

I had a problem like this once (not Mopar). Turned out the head gasket partially covered the return drain holes. I was able to pound a slim drift pin into the holes and crush the gasket outward. Made the mistake of using STP some time later and the increased viscosity caused the problem to...

    Unusual Backfiring Problems

If you're getting a pretty big back fire, sounds like fuel may be collecting in the muffler(s) as you decelerate and ignite when hot gases resume under acceleration. Sounds like carb. Float level too high?

    Belt frying?

Right on to Harleydartguy & moparlover. My daughter's Taurus fried a couple of serpentine belts. Turned out the AC compressor clutch was locking up. Apparently, it was freezing up intermittently. Rusty bearing balls fell out when the clutch was removed. Unfortunately for my pocketbook, the...

Paint a Zinc Plated oil Pan?

I don't think your pan is zinc plated. If it were, it would be dull gray. I've seen this treatment on hood hinges, light assemblies etc. The part is dipped in chemicals that impart a corrosion resistance. This keeps the part looking new while in stock and is good to combat rusting from...

I'm not saying my car runs like a dog but according to the manual, a major tune up requires a parvo shot.

Harmonic balancer repair sleeve any good?

Never used on a car but they work good on industrial gear boxes. Hint: Rest it on a heated 60w light bulb before dropping it on.

    fixing leaking rear main seal

...Another trick. to find the origin of a leak, clean & dry the area really good. (Oil eater is THE BEST. Get it at Auto Zone or ?) Get a squeeze container of baby powder and 'puff' a bunch of powder all over the area in question. Run the engine and look for a dark spot. When you're done, just...

    fixing leaking rear main seal

Not exactly the right thing to do but I once built a little tray out of gas welding rod and attached it to the inspection hole bolts. Put a super absorbent diaper in the tray every month. Worked good until I found a better reason to pull the motor.
