Should I disconnect ballast resistor when using MSD ignition?????????????????????

Duster360, don't have to run the ballast. However, if you want to keep it for nostalgic reasons you can disassemble the ballast and solder in a wire to bridge the connection and re-install it. It's how my buddies and I run our units. Southernman

    Ignition woes

Dartbro, IMHO, do the HEI conversion. It's the best time and money you'll spend on your hotrod, and you can kiss ignition issues good bye. One wire for ignition and one wire for the tach. It's one of the first changes I make to a new hotrod. Let us know how it goes. Southernman

    Painless wiring???

I've got a Ron Francis unit I'm getting ready to install in my '63 Belvedere. I've just cut every wire out of the car and should start installing the new harness next week. I'm also closing off all of the holes in the firewall, and running the wires under the drivers side front fender to keep...

    MSD/Starting/Charging Issue, Novice Needs Help

Here's a great link I've used over the years to troubleshoot all things MSD. There is A LOT of information there, but I'm sure it covers interfacing with the Unilite distributor. Happy hunting ! http://www.msdignition.com/forum/archive/index.php?f-3.html

    Interesting ballast resistor article.

Actually, random animosity can be a rate limiting lifestyle as well... as in it's better that one "think" I'm just acting like a child, versus postings that actually prove such... Just sayin'...

    Interesting ballast resistor article.

Actually, Dave Young's article is correct. You can, in lieu of points, run without the ballast resistor. Only problem is, it (the coil) will run hot and it's life cycle is significantly reduced. To those that prefer to keep the ballast, just remember, a ballast is a "resistor" and it's...

How to: GM12SI alternator on a small block

Here you go. This link is to Mancini's site where you can buy the entire kit (with the Toyota alternator - they call it a Denso, but it's the Denso used on most Toyotas today) or just the brackets. Once installed, your voltmeter will be extremely steady - so much so, I've had buddies say...

How to: GM12SI alternator on a small block

Hey Gold Duster, nice job on that conversion. I've done many myself similar swaps over the years, and they worked great, as long as I didn't expose them to high rpms too much. I now convert my engines to run the Toyota (sorry guys) alternator and Mancini Racing sells the brackets to install...
