    Are our Slants "Unsafe"?

new cars are definitely safer packed with their safety technology but I find it ironic that manufactures make many cars way too powerful. (My Dad's Acura TL is like a rocket ship). Newer cars are easy to drive thus enabling drivers to go too fast, follow too close, zip around corners, park...

    70 225 with 160K 16-18 mpg. 63 170 with 170K maybe a bit higher; gas gauge works so I'm not as concerned

teenage girl and a slant six

I bought my daughter the 63 valiant and she loves it. It has manual steering and brakes. She carefully bops back and forth to high school with it. It is no speedster with the little 170 but enough for her.

    mileage on your car

Just thought it would be interesting to know what people have for mileage on their cars and engines. My 63 is pushing 166,000 on the original, never rebuilt 170/. The 68 has about 100,00 original on the 225.

    slant 6 gettin WARM

I changed out the thermostat to a 180; flushed out the radiator but the gage still read high although the fluid was measuring anywhere between 170-190. I changed the sending unit temp screw on the block and the gage is now right in the middle of the normal range; I'm trilled!

    198 vs 225 and 170 general question.

I only hear about the 225 and 170; what's with the 198 (I am looking at 71 valiant)? Is it's reputation held as high as the others?

    getting thermostat out

Finally got it! heat, tapping, PB lube and much patience. Thanks for the advise and encouragement. I put a super stant 180 in and gauge is back in the normal zone, I did notice a small hole and tiny leak in the top tank of rad. Put some Barz coolant whatever in until I can get it to a shop...

    getting thermostat out

yes it is a slant 6: he says the housing for the water pump which is connected to the block makes it impossible to get the drill on the lower thermostat bolt. I am thinking of getting an aftermarket electrical gage to hook up so I have a more accurate reading than the stock to keep an eye on...

    getting thermostat out

I went to change the thermostat and couldn't budge the bolts. I don't have great tools or even a garage so I took the car up to a friend who has a shop. He can't get them to budge either. He says that if he breaks the bolt he can't get his drill near enough to drill out without removing the...
