Got a message from a buddy about the brakes on his 67 barracuda with a 7 1/4 rear and factory v8 auto car
He hasn't pulled the wheels to measure them but ask what I thought.
Been a long time since I had car like his, but my 1st car was about the exact same as the one he is working on
I...
Old school hot rod or not, if you are driving it on the street SAFETY FIRST!
Unless it is a 100% correct restoration, museum piece, in my opinion you should upgrade. Not only for your safety but everyone that you drive around.
If a child runs out in front of you and the brakes fail would...
Did you replace the rubber hoses?
They can be bad and cause problems also
I upgraded to SSBC it really is a safety thing, much better than drum brakes.
Seen in another thread about using DOT 5
I built my Dart and the system was all new, had a quart of dot 5 that I thought I would use in my Prowler, but after reading that you needed to completely clean & flush the system decided against it. So the Dart was 100% all new system so I used it in...
I have them on my Dart
My stock never on the ground 14" spare tire and steel wheel would not clear the caliper, my 14 x 6 Crager SS fit fine
I used DOT 5 brake fluid and it damaged the seals in the calibers. Sent them back to SSBC and they rebuilt them for FREE and even the return shipping...
I would doubt it will work. I have SSBC conversion on mine. it is basicly the stock 67-72 factory disc brake caliper, but the rotor didn't look anything like a factory rotor.
I have fine line SS kit on mine. Cut and reflare impossible for me. If using SS use a SWAGLOK fitting where the cut is needed. They are Stainless steel compression fittings. I used them on my proportioning valve with no problem
In another thread someone stated Demon/Duster were 108" WB
well another few weeks with the Dart down
Got the cliper back and put on last night. Let the new dot 4 brake fluid drain all night on it's own. Tonight started to bleed the brakes and what I was afraid of happened. the right caliper started leaking as I was bleeding the brakes
So, guess it...
I got my caliper back today, they said i should flush the DOT 5 and put DOT 4 in.
I must say the service I got at SSBC is very unexpected. I called and they said to send it to them. After a week and a 1/2 I was going to call to see what they found out and why it was leaking, but it was...
mine was all new parts never any other brake fluid in it. new Master cylinder, new SS brake lines, New rubber hoses, new calipers and wheel cylinders, new unopened DOT5 brake fluid
Guess it is my luck, if not for bad luck I would have none at all
Thanks Guys
kind of what I was wondering. It only had dot 5 in it but since the fluid was bought about 6 years ago (bought to change into Prowler then read had to make sure all the dot 3 was removed and flushed real well I put in Dart)
All the parts on the dart were new when installed...
I installed SSBC disc brake conversion on my Dart and used DOT 5 brake fluid
everything was OK for 4,000 miles and then going to the car show a few weeks ago the pedal felt soft, once there fluid was leaking onto the left front wheel & tire
I called SSBC and they said send it back, ask if...
I have SSBC disc brake kit on my 67 Dart convertible, Was very easy and complete kit. I did have spindles off a 71 340 Demon that were 10" drum.
Not sure cost, I bought new in box from buddy who sold his car before installing
my Dart is filled with Dot 5
I have all new SS brake lines, 10" rear drums and SSBC disc brake on front. Everything seems OK, good pedal feel, plenty of stopping power
If installing a complete new system I would do it again
I have it in my Dart. Everything was new so no big deal. I bought a mini vac pump to bleed the brakes, made the bleeding job very easy and no need for someone pumping the brakes. Have non power disc/drum and the pedal feels good for the system on it.
My plan when I bought the DOT5 was to...
