    Big Block Weight Differences

Good morning all! I am just building an aluminum headed low deck to replace my old iron headed 440. Old engine was a 440 with iron heads, new engine is a low deck 451 with aluminum heads. Anyone have a rough idea on what the weight difference might be between the two? Thanks!

    Budget Aluminum Heads

Straight out of the box or did you have the heads gone over first?

    Budget Aluminum Heads

Awesome, thanks. My machinist, who is very reputable and builds lots of performance engines told me they were forged pistons. I will double check tomorrow.

    Budget Aluminum Heads

So I have decided to build my next engine. It will be a budget OG stroker - 400 block, 440 steel crank turned down to fit, Eagle H beam rods and Silvolite forged pistons. It will have a flat tappet solid cam in the .550 lift range and I would like to run it on pump premium as I drag and drive...

    Cam & Timing Set Questions

Two quick questions. I know we are all aware of the cam failure issue over the last 20 or 25 years. I personally had a mopar 509 cam go flat 15 years ago and blame myself, it definitely was an oil issue (lack of zinc) on my part. Mine was a hydraulic flat tappet, and it seems that every cam...

    Big Block Advice Needed

Or all three, LOL.My first step, in a few weeks, will be to pull the intake and heads to measure actual CR. I do know for a fact that when my buddy put the cam and heads on this engine he just stabbed the cam in and didn’t degree it.

    Big Block Advice Needed

Thanks for all the advice. To clarify, I am not talking about going to a bigger solid cam, I am talking about a similar sized solid cam for a few reasons. Added stability at high rpm, between my 4200 launch and 6000 shift, where hydraulic cams suffer, solids with a similar advertised duration...

    Big Block Advice Needed

Thanks! Had some fun with it this summer, first event was the Langley Loafers old time drags at Mission Raceway where I won nostalgia gas class, second event (and my completion date and goal) my son and I ran in the Canadian drag week, Miles of Mayhem where we placed third in bracket class. Good...

    Big Block Advice Needed

OK guys, not an A body but I want to make my 49 Plymouth gasser a little quicker, on a budget LOL. Think cam and intake change. I would like to pick up a half second in the 1/4 if I could. I built this car, a rat rod / gasser through covid and had it on the road for the first time this summer...

    Engle Roller Cam ID

Yes, I agree. If I get my hands on it I will properly degree it. Just wondering if anyone knew before I make an offer on it.

    Engle Roller Cam ID

No, not yet. It just came my way yesterday and I haven't had time to yet.

    Engle Roller Cam ID

Can anyone help to decode what the original cam specs were for this old Engle BB solid roller cam? It looks to me like it says JR82/EX3, then an H, and then 108 12 A 0 Thanks!

Advice small block K frame with Schumacher conversion mounts for a big block

Yes, as you have biscuit mounts I believe that you have to notch for the oil pump.

Advice small block K frame with Schumacher conversion mounts for a big block

Are you starting with a spool or biscuit mount k frame?

Any information from this picture? I checked casting number on block and date. Intake? Heads?

The poly engine is most likely a 55 Dodge 270 CI. It was called the red ram in 55 (as on the valve covers) and shared the same block and crank as the 55 Dodge super red ram 270 CI hemi. Not really worth a lot, maybe 500 if it is a runner.

    Need a fix for this:

Looks fairly standard for a 440 in an a body with hooker fenderwells. There are lots running around like that with no issues. If it concerns you make a shield and / or wrap the header as suggested.

    Hooker fenderwell header templates

This is what I did on my 72 dart, just cut out the minimum required, and cut nice round corners, not 90 degree corners.

    F M L...... but wouldn't have it any other way☝️

Sounds like a fun trip, LOL. What is with the manifolds on that engine, are they marine? Looks like a marine intake the way the carb flange is tilted.

    Throttle linkage?

Man your oil pressure line looks like it is tight as a guitar string..... you want to make sure it has plenty of slack and is routed so it doesnt chafe on anything. Yep, your throttle bracket needs some help. It should be raised up and pull more horizontal on, and in line with the carb. If you...

What do last numbers in block casting mean?

The last two paragraphs here discuss it. There is lots of good info on this website. 440 Source.com - Info on Chrysler's casting and part numbering system
