    225 to 440 Swap!HELP!

Unless your car is going to be a strip car only you should consider a brake upgrade (if it is currently drums) and bigger torsion bars mandatory. A front sway bar and subframe connectors should also be high on the list.

Torque boxes and frame connectors. When are they required?

I can tell you this; before I put the sub frame connectors in if I jacked either the front or back of the car up I could not open the door or if it was open it would miss the stricker by 1/2". After the connectors I can open and close the door without issue. Also, after the connectors the number...

    how to find compression

The compression numbers piston manufactures advertise assumes the block deck height is at its nominal dimension, on an untouched block they are almost always significantly higher. Same with the chamber size they are almost always bigger than the nominal advertised number. If you just build an...

Header Paint and hearder heat wrap ?'s

This is POR-20 on a set of \6 headers. The picture was taken about 2.5 years and 20k miles after painting them. They looked nearly as good under the car. Unlike POR-15 you have to remove all the rust before applying the coating. This is VHT's header paint on a new set of hedman headers. I...

    Distributor Vacuum Advance?

The problem with that article is that that engineers were using ported vacuum long before they could spell emissions so it's certainly not something that was done to meet emissions requirements. Also, if you are relying on the vacuum advance to add additional timing to clean up the idle the...

    Distributor Vacuum Advance?

The phasing issues were with factory distributors. You won't have an issue with the MP unit.

    Distributor Vacuum Advance?

The nice thing about the MP distributor is the ability to adjust the amount of mechanical advance, the rate at which it comes in and the ability to adjust when the vacuum advance starts to come in. Mallory sells a nice tuning kit (#29014) for this distributor. As it is delivered it has a fast...

    Distributor Vacuum Advance?

Vacuum advance only operates at light throttle cruising, it's purpose is to improve efficiency and economy. With any significant throttle opening there is not enough manifold vacuum for the vacuum advance to add timing. The vacuum advance is normally hooked to the timed port that is half way...

My first A-body, need some 383 advise?

I don't know how much of a sleeper it will be with 13" tires and 9" drum brakes. It will be like driving on ice; The minute you touch the gas the tires will be spinning and in the mean time the guy next to you in the Civic will just drive away. Then when it comes time to stop you will swear you...

    exhaust kits?

The kits from Summit and Jegs assume you have Hooker headers meaing the S pipe that goes between the collector and the intermediate pipes will likely require some modifications to line up properly if you don't have Hookers. I got a 2.5" kit from Summit and also added the Summit x-pipe so...

    MSD, Mallory, or Mopar original

The primary thing that makes a distributor a performance distributor is the ability to adjust the mechanical advance internal to the distributor. If you have modified the engine with more compression and/or a cam the factory advance is no longer ideal for the combination. Mopar Performance...

    Lucas Response To Zinc Additive

Good, everytime I see VR1 at the local chain stores it's always the SM version.

    Lucas Response To Zinc Additive

Just a point of note: Any oil that has an SM rating or CJ rating on the bottle has only 800 ppm of zinc regardless of what the marketeers have put on the bottle. Valvoline for example makes two types of VR1 one with the SM rating and only has 800 ppm and the other that has no sevice rating and...

    Never tried this before!

Nothing wrong with a Ford 9". You certainly won't gain any strength with an 8.75 and the 9" can be built to be stronger than the Dana 60 for less than what you will pay for a Dana.

    a833 for my scamp???

Is it a B-body or a B/E body tranny? If its a B/E body tranny with the dual shifter mounting pads its a fairly easy swap, I have one in my 68 Barracuda. If its a B body only it will take some serious surgery to the torsion bar cross member because the single mount for the shifter sits under the...

    440 in Barracuda?

The factory installed 440's in 69. They fit but its tight. Even with a 318 these 40 year old cars need some help to stiffen them up. It's a good plan to install subframe connectors and torque box stiffeners.
