A resistor shouldn't glow red as the one here does. It gets hot enough that warm air passes through the vent.
I haven't checked to see what year it is. I don't even remember the A-body it originally comes from, I pulled it from a '72 Duster I parted out.

Actually, I like this. The use of a detergent sounds good to me as a chemical flush can break things loose and not properly dissolve the crap, leaving a nice clogged heater core that will soon be leaking on the floor. Thanks for the tip, godfather. Next flush I do, I'll have to try this one.
