I believe the broken kickdown lever and loose front band started the problem. The lock nut on the front band adjuster kept coming loose causing the band to also loosen up.

Ok here's an update. Set kickdown as per instructions and verified shift cable in correct position. Verified bands set. Put pan back fill with new fluid. Started car checked fluid again topped off. Seems to be driving just as it should. No slipping....so far. Will monitor very closely. I...

Is the measurement the same with the push button setup? Looks like the valve body needs to come out to verify this mesurement.

Ok that makes sense about the kickdown. The instructions in the service manual aren't very clear about that or the initial setting of the shift cable. The arm that actuates the manual valve has been welded on the bottom of the shaft it pivots on. Apparently it broke at some point and thats how...

Also the kickdown lever broke because of my floorpan job. It would come into contact with more throttle eventually caused it to snap in two. Luckily still had both halves so was able to tack weld it together.

Ok just dropped the pan. The detent was off a bit. Pretty sure I have it right. The fluid did not smell burnt. It was recently changed. I did notice however some fine metal flake in the bottom of the pan. Nothing chunky. The car was driven twice since I last had it apart.

Yes it is full. Seems to be slipping in all the forward gears in drive. Slips more with throttle. Car still moves just much slower acceleration. Shifts seem solid at about the right speeds. No flare when shifting. Just feels mushy on accelerating. Like i said clutches and bands were fine. Bands...

After replacing lip seals i did another air check which was much improved.

I feel your pain....I'm having very similar issues. My slipping occurrs in 2nd gear. Pulling my pan off today. Expecting issue with kickdown band and or front clutch. Probably end up pulling the thing out once again....lol
