    Why trash the rotators?

So on my build I obviously trashed them, but my question is why? They seem like Ma M was again ahead of her time introducing these, so what gives, why would that be a bad thing, weren't they supposed to keep the exhaust valve cooler, therefor more longevity?

Bitter learning curve. Absolutely DONE with carburetors!!!

I started hearing a faint thumping sound on my newly built 360 at idle around the trans hump. Now I know this can't be good but I try not to worry to much because it's just ever so slight, but I'm monitering it and can't stop listening for it. I have about 300 miles on it and it's only been to...

It's finally a driver!!! Some general advice please.

So the day finally came when I could take the 360 Scamp out for it's maiden voyage, first engine I've ever rebuilt, very happy! I already had it initially broke in but not driven except around the block a few times to test driveline. Everything went really well but I just want some advice...

    Timing marks.

Timing was always a mystery to me before I started researching it, I pretty much a good grasp on it now ( cam specs on the other hand are still not second nature ). Back to the point, er, pointers (ha ha). I have on my 360la's stock timing cover degrees for timing, I also have timing degrees on...

    Just Venting, AARRGH...

I learned a very frustrating thing, in my 71 Scamp the engine and trans will go in as one unit as factory. However when you throw in headers and a six quart oil pan, forget it! No amount of scratches on my newly painted engine, transmission and engine bay will make it happen either. AAARRGGH...

    Header gaskets that work?

I've been trying to get the new Mr Gasket aluminum header gaskets, thought I found a set on line but they just Emailed me saying they don't have it either. What other company has thick soft gaskets that might actually stay sealed?

    360 SWAP Balance question.

Happy Halloween, I thought I had this worked out but,... The torque converter I was going to use doesn't work for me. 318 904 swapping to a 360 with the same 904, I rebuilt the 360 and installed a new Summit crank damper part number SUM-C4278 on the 360, it has a weight that can be left on for...

    Which heads?

4027596 on the intake runner under the valve cover, I cannot find this casting number? I have checked twice on both heads same number, not 4027569 like I found through searching?

    Couple questions, all about bolts.

I have my engine back out to do a few things, it was only in long enough to start it and break it in and around the block a few times, now I'm taking off the oil and valve pans to reseal, not happy about this as I bought expensive reusable rubber gaskets. Anyway, Im probably just paranoid, this...

    Motor Mounts

Can someone please explain the difference in motor mounts to me? I have a 71 Scamp that came with a 318, I put in my 360LA and I did have to shim one side because a the tab issue, not a big deal but I would like to make it right while I have it back out right now. I was trying to search the company that was talked about on the forums here, the new self learning efi system that was actually more affordable and seemed to be working good? Anybody want to point me in the right direction?

Anybody want to take a stab at HP figure??

Ill try to list what I've done to get a read on the expected horsepower. 360la block 30 over, stock steel crank and rods 10 under, SpeedPro Hyperutechtic flat-top 9.5 CR pistons that came in 20 below deck, I did not check which heads they are but they are cast iron and had the air injection...

    Compession ratio Results, opinions?

    Hi guys, I finally got around to running a compression test on the 360LA I built. I had the carb off and no plugs in it and it was a dry test on a cold engine. 1= 190psi 3= 187psi 5= 205psi 7= 190psi 2= 187psi 4= 190psi 6= 187psi 8= 190psi So what are your opinions?

    balancing a 360?

Hi Fabo, This is my first build and even though I've been researching/reading/asking I still made some mistakes along the way, I expected this so I'm not discouraged and so far none have cost me alot of money. One was thinking the passenger side header would fit in after the engine was...

It didnt go as planned, new motor break in.

After two years of prep I started my 360 today for the break in, it did not go well. First the brand new thermostat didn't open and it started getting hot, but the radiator was cold. Ugh, quickly pulled thermostat and restarted, problem solved, water circulating. Then I see the rpms dropping...

    Help Identify this.

I know this is going to sound silly but I gotta ask. 71 Scamp, factory 318, on the passenger side fenderwell coming up from same spot as the fuel line, it looks like steel fuel line, it goes up to the top and maybe 10 inches forward. is this the fuel return line? It wasn't hooked up when I got...

I sure hope there is help for this.

Hello Everyone, I put my new motor in my 71 Scamp this morning, and as usual I forgot one small thing. I forgot to line up the flywheel and torque converter before I bolted the tranny up. Does anyone know an easier way to line them up before I start installing bolts an have to keep taking them...

    Pictures of motor mounts.

Can someone direct me to pictures of the motor mounts in a 1971 scamp v8 or similar. I'm trying to replace mine and I don't think they were installed right previous to me owning the car. Specifically trying to figure if and where the spool goes. As is it only has a rubber mount on each side. Thanks.

Its a 1972 360 2barrel.Im having trouble identifying my heads, a little help please. Stock iron 360la heads, casting number 3671587, 1.88 intake and 1.6 exhaust. Are these J or W or what? Next question, anybody want to run a horsepower calculator for me? I'll try to give all my as of now decided...

    Help reusing valves.

I do trust my machine shop, but it would be nice to know how to tell the difference between a good reusable valve and one thats shot. I havent cleaned any yet but some look quite pitted on the part of the stem in the exhaust port, this motor sat alot. Can that just be polished off? Whats to much...

    Waiting Patiently

Well I am patiently waiting for work back on my 360 block as it's in the machine shop for a tank and inspection, not big news but Im excited and I had to tell someone since nobody else in my life is a carguy. They don't really get it, some of them I told about the project and they actually asked...

Anybody feel like clearing this up? Which cam and lifters?

I'm building a street 1972 LA 360, so far I've decided to reuse the crank, rods, heads and hopefully valves. I've decided to go roller and am using PRW 1.6 shaft mount rockers, now I need to pick the rest of the valvetrain. I'm not going crazy on the cam, thinking around 9.5 to 1 cr. My goal is...
