70 440 HP worth $450 ????
Buddy of mine is broke and needs some cash. He offered me his 70 440 HP out of a 70 roadrunner. Complete low mileage engine. steel crank, 906 heads, 70 4bbl intake and carb w what I think is aftermarket chrome valve covers. Block is dated 9/?/69. If it were a 340 id be all over it. Not up on big blocks. Is it worth the $450. Was a strong running engine until he wrecked the roadrunner 20 yrs ago. been sitting on a stand in a heated garage ever since (as a conversation piece). Should be taken apart and cleaned up I imagine. He did take the rocker arm assemblys off, oils the cylinders and turns it over every so often. need to let him know by tomorrow, if I dont buy it another buddy wants it.

My father has gone for ride in the RR before it was totaled and he said it went like heck. He had installed a MP .509 cam and headers.

If you've got the disposable cash, be a good friend and loan him the money with the 440 as collateral. Tell him when things get better you will sell him the 440 back for the same money. Times are tough for a lot of folks right now and it were one of my friends, I'd do it.

I now own a 70 440 HP. After looking around his garage, I got some new LA ARP main studs, new cloyes BB timing chain, spare set of 906 heads, BB 727, SB 727, 69 340 timing cover, Holley 650 DP, and a bunch of gasket sets for $500. He really sweetened the deal up for me.

I would have but he is one of them friends that isn't all that responsible and it would be 20 years before he gets the money. I'm not going to store a 440 for ever hoping he can return the money @ some point. Now that I own it I can build and use it. That was the whole point of buying it. I have some money, but not enough to lend out when I have my own bills to pay.
