my biggest complaint about the 73+ grill is the front end. It looks "grampa" to me?!?

Has anyone painted it? I thought about painting it black, but then I thought??? well... that might be kind of?? ah? lame?

opinions?

I used to own a '73 duster back in the 80's. I sold it to a friend and he did that. I thought that it looked a lot better. But I also really dont like the grill on those very much. Too bad you couldn't find a picture of one blacked out. Or find a grill that you wouldn't mind just painting real quick.

I like my grills to be mostly black but with a little silver to give it some depth and brake up all that black.

I painted the grille on my 73 Dart Sport alomst first thing I did to it. I'd do it again in a minute. Changes the entire look of the front end, and makes it much more... well, in 1984 it made it much cooler. Now, I guess it looks much less "grampa".

Pastortom1 That looks very cool! I just might try that now! :)
Maybe I'll see if I can a cheap second grill to play with in case it doesn't turn out as cool as yours!

Thanks!

Anyone else have pics of a 73 Duster? That would be cool!

Ya, get a cheap one to practice on if you dont feel confident about your painting skills. Just remember. Do light coats. You can hardly mess it up that way.

I think grilles look best stock.
All of your cars look great, but stock suits me.
It's your car, do what you want to do.
If it's a survivor car or rare think twice about this or any other modifications!
Just my 2 cents.
Tom.

Myasylum: I've done two of mine and i'll try and get pics up later. Paint the whole grille black, i like flat, then i take a "Testors" paint pen and put on what stripes i want highlited onthe ribs. Looks great. I did chrome on the 73 440 and i'm doing the 74 "Gold Duster" with gold highlites.

i had a 73 dart and did a black out on the grille once kinda like whiteys but except the 3 bars in the middle i left them original it looked really neat

My grill and trim is blacked out also. I'm thinking about painting a couple of the grill fins yellow to match the stripes and maybe the turn signal housings too....

Granted, mine is not the same year as yours.....
I went flat black. I tried the shiny silver, it looked like a teenage kid got loose with .99 cent paint. I tried a charcoal, and when installed on my brown Dart, it looked bronze.
