Drivers side non remote mirror

Hey guys my drivers side mirror has been irritating me lately. It's just loose enough to where I have to adjust it any time I hit a bad patch of road. Do the ball and socket inside the mirror have the same plate with 3 screws tightening it down like the rear view mirrors do? I've fixed rear view mirrors by placing a piece of cereal box inbetween the plate and the ball and it tightens them up like they're brand new again. Can you do this with the drivers side mirror too?

Also has anyone taken the glass out? I read you can soak it in laquer thinner and it'll loosen up the glass adhesive without messing up the chrome or glass. Anyone know if this is true? The glass and chrome on this mirror are near mint so I don't want to mess anything up. Thanks.

This is a 71 Duster. Even if yours is different, I'm still curious if it can be tightened like a rear view mirror.
