I need to replace the universal joint, I uderstand that you can convert to open type. Can someone give me info on this, thanks in advance, Jimk.

i think you have to change the output shaft and tail housing in order to do that but not 100%....

Not sure what "open type" means. People have changed to a standard U-joint at the tranny. There is a splined adapter that bolts to the output shaft of your tranny and accepts a U-joint. I think it is from trucks. The seller gave me one when I bought a cable-shift 727 tranny (for Detroit ball & trunnion). You then need to customize the driveshaft by adding a sliding component. A good driveshaft shop can do that. I haven't done so, but you can find posts w/ photos and PN's on FABO to do that mod.
