Is this a fair price for a /6 car?

Just saw an add in the old autos paper up here and there's a 76 Duster in it. Says is a SC car, new paint, numbers matching, AC, super clean.

Black and white photo looks like a pretty stock basic car....

$14,000 invested, $12,000 firm.....

Is that a fair price... Lets take him at his word and its a great car.... Still I'm thinking hes about doubled what that car is worth. Maybe I'm out to lunch....

I thought so... even if it was a time capsule, its still a time capsule of a car with little value....

There was another duster just south of the town I live in. It was on a lawn for sale for 3 or 4 months. I stopped to look for a price and there wasn't one. It was around a 74. I could pop the hood from outside the car... it was pretty original, 318, every stock vacuum hose and pump gizmo the factory could stuff on this thing... it was a AC car. inside looked clean enough... for what I could see the underside was solid... Anyway I call and the guy want 15K for it... I was like oh ya, good luck... he said he bought it and painted it (the original brown) then lost his job and has to get rid of it... he wanted an offer but I didn't want to low ball him, plus I was just curious anyway, I couldn't fine two dimes to rub together.... everyone thinks there junk is worth a mint... and if its a Mopar then double it...

here in eastern canada almost any good shape 60's mopar brings 6000+ if its really nice no matter what engine it can bring 10,000+ I would likely only pay $6,000-$8,000 though

Who gives a shit if the car is a "numbers matching" slant six? It is a SLANT SIX!!! Dump all the money that you want into a car, but in the case of a 76 Duster with the lowest performance engine, DON'T expect to pass your foolish losses onto someone else.
