Went to the Seattle Mopar show today and the two D/Darts that sold at the Mecum auction were there. Here's some pics. Real cool to see this historical part of Chrysler history in person. Whoever ends up buying the white car will have to come up with a lot of the original parts. I'll post pics of the red road race car later

Great car! Love the history of these D Darts.

In case we have a member that has a wheel barrow full of money the owner wants 50K for the white car. I didn't even bother asking about the Trans Am car.

Did you get to hear either of them? Those little 273s sounded nasty. I've seen and heard one before years ago. Badass.

The white drag car sounds mean as hell, didn't hear the other road racer

Was there a bad *** looking 64 Fairlane black, teardrop hood? It was heading back with the 2 darts

Isn't it a little odd having rivets hold the VIN tag on an early a-body? I would have loved to see the trans-am car.

I've seen them with and without. There is no doubt in mind. ddartdude, a current FABO member was the previous owner prior to the flippers getting the car.

Both cars sounded pretty healthy. he didn't bring the Fairlane in that it was a Mopar show. however he did bring that FC7, 1970 340 Dart Swinger.

Was thinking the guy said they bought 7 cars at the auction.

There were more A Bodies there than I've seen at all the auctions combined.

I remember him telling me 24 cars. He did say that most of the buys were negotiated after the bidding.

ddartdude shared with me the history of that white car.

When they first came out, everybody thought that only the 'special connected racers'
could get them.

Advertised as a 12.90 'Ready-To-Go' Factory prepared car.

Nobody ever saw one back in the day, just stories of the 'Special D-Dart',,,,,,,,,,,,

Everytime a 1966 Dart showed up at the track, all the Mopar guys would go take
a peak to see if it was a D-Dart. Though, most didn't know what to look for.

It was a disappointment, to find out that it was just a regular 273 Commando running
in G/Stock in 1966.

And to think --- the white car only has a 1967 - 273-2 barrel engine with a lumpy, hydraulic cam in it. It has a pieced together Chrysler electronic ignition and an Edelbrock LD340 intake with a Holley 1850 carb. It also has 920 heads and the currently produced 1 5/8" Doug's D450 headers. I heard it with open headers when it was down here in Florida at the Mecum Auction. It sounded very healthy ........ It turned a lot of heads when Ellis started it up. It sounds almost as good as my D/Dart. But not quite.

I do miss that car........

The new owners of the white D/Dart put it on the block again. It's at the Mecum Monterey Auction -- Lot 190.1. Got a bid of $23,000 before they pushed it off stage. That car needs a lot of TLC for them to get what they want for it. I should know.

Really like the D Darts...Surprised they left them with the dreaded Inland shifters.

1966

Was a big year for what the NHRA called the Dealer-Factory Stockers.

A/Stock
1966 - 426 Street Hemi {Plymouth Belvedere and Satellite -and Dodge Coronet}

1966 - Chevy II Nova Super Sport - 327/350 HP 'L-79'

B/Stock
1966 Chevrolet Biscayne - 427/425 HP
1966 Chevrolet Malibu SS - 396/375 HP

1966 Ford Galaxie - 427/425 HP

C/Stock
1966 Pontiac GTO - 389/360 HP 'Tri-Power'

1966 Oldsmobile 4-4-2 - 400/360 HP 'Tri-Power'

1966 Mercury Cyclone - 390/335 HP

1966 Ford Fairlane GT - 390/335 HP

1966 Buick Gran Sport - 401/340 HP

Unfortunately for Mopar, the 440/375 'Super Commando' was 1-Year away, and
the 383/325 HP was woefully over-matched.

D/Stock
1966 Dodge D/Dart - 273/275 HP

1966 Ford Mustang GT 289/271 HP 'Hi-Po'

Chevy II Nova Super Sport - 327/275 HP

Unfortunately for Dodge, the D/Dart was a quickly put together 1966 Package,
loaded with primarily bolt-on items with a mildly radical Camshaft.

I believe this is the 5th time that it's been on the block. It sold at the Indy auction earlier this year. Now the new owner/dealer is trying to make some money on it.

Did you get to test the 2 D/Dart cams?
Alan

Shame these two cars keep getting whored out. When I talked with the owner in June he didn't have a clue as to what he had.

Alan,

I'll post the other Camshaft results n the other thread,,,,,,,,

I also met an old Dodge Racer at a recent Mopar Show in North Carolina, who said that
Chrysler Performance was working on the LA 318 engine for the {Dodge only}
1966 A-Body for early 1966, as a 'performance package' for the Dart GT.

I wonder if it was a 318/275 HP............Requires research....
