When the car just rolled off the assembly line, were the aluminum trim pieces; like the grills and the trim across the rear deck lid shinny like the Stainless Steel trim and Chrome bumpers?

I've heard mopar people doing high quality detailed restorations that have used and satisfied with:

He will put the original Bright Dip (anodized) coating back on the aluminum if you choose that option.

I've never sent stuff out personally.

The original aluminum pieces were "clear anodized" -- they were polished, then went through a process that deposited clear aluminum oxide on the surface, as a protective layer (Bright Dip).

The problem is that this surface eventually weathers and becomes dull. In order to polish the piece you have to remove the "anodized" layer (usually using chemicals).

After you buff it out you have a shiny piece, but it won't last. Polished aluminum exposed to the elements turns dull very quickly. So your choices are, you can have it re-anodized, which is costly, and then it will last as long as the original (but maybe that still isn't long enough for you); or you can just give it a good waxing to protect it, and repeat often.
