If my Wife reads this post she'll beat me with a bat....and I'm not kidding.

I'm thinking of dropping a small block in my Dart. I'm getting tired of bringing a knife to a gunfight when I want to merge onto a highway...or pass someone. I'll have a complete dual exhaust system from the Barracuda after I install the new one. And I have a fairly clean 2 dr. Dart already....that runs good, but will get spanked by a Hyundai. Never mind a Esclade at full throttle.

Do I need theraphy? Divorce lawyer? A Hockey gear?

Done anything to improve the performance of the current engine. I hate to pull a running engine. I'd rather wind it up till it breaks.

fastback, you can always use the line with your wife that more power is safer ,overtaking quickly and getting back on the right side of the road ,
after travelling in a old corona with friends i remembered just how much safer my v8's were-ken

Yiipee my 1000th post!

:wav::wav::wav:

I didn't know you had a Dart!

Yeah I would go for it. You just got to have a little get up and go.

I agree, you can do several things to your slant six to up the power, and they may even improve gas mileage as well.

You just need to get the right parts.

That way you can leave the outside stock, just tell her that you are giving it a tune up. Thats how we put the 4 inch drop spindles on my moms 89 blazer she used to drive, "WHAT ARE YOU DOING TO MY CAR?!"..."A brake job mom"..."Oh ok".

Oh, man, nothing beats an A-body with a hot V8!! Why steer with the steering wheel when it's so much more fun to bring that rear end right around with the throttle?

OK... Being a brave (or stupid....) man I ran this past my Wife: I need more power. I need to be able to tow the Barracuda to & from the track. I need a NEW car, preferably a Hemi Magnum or a V-8 Ram or Dakota. We also discussed how much fun her GTI is and how she can scoot in & out of traffic with juice to spare. But then we should keep a handle on money since we'll be selling one house & buying another (I hope...) this coming year. Then I casually mentioned that maybe I should swap out the slant 6 and drop in a stock 360/auto so I can survive the mean streets of NYC and be able to tow without dropping big money. So, am I bruised & bloodied from a vicious bat-attack?

Anybody have a running wrecked or rot-box A body for cheap in the tri-state area with a running small block/auto combo? 8 3/4" rear would be a HUGE bonus.... No Hot Rod parts other than what I have already is allowed (I have a factory 340 intake and a set of headers and duals) If I buy something with chrome valve covers, fine. If I go out and BUY a set of chrome valve covers I'll have a head trauma injury and they'll find a bloody bat. There's no time limit, such as I need this by Thursday. Just throwing it out there.

Help a brother out.... 8)

You didn't know I had a Dart too? I have a `74 2 dr. Grandma special that I use as a knock-around beater. Six cylinder, auto, power steering, and that's it. I rebuilt the suspension, added Poly Graphite bushing and gas shocks, and re-built the brake system, Kenwood stereo & Sirius. She rides nice & tight now... just has no guts. The six runs good with no knocking or oil consumption issues, so this is a good reason to take it out and create more problems for myself....:-D

Here it is:

I'm just thinking out loud right now. If I come across a good deal that makes it all feasible, game on. But I'm NOT hunting this down like it's a necessity.

Man that is a nice car,,,I like it.

That car had a hard life before meeting me. The only reason that it sits on the streets and I treat it as a beater is because it's been hit from EVERY side in the past. I mean, there's bondo on the rear roof SAIL panels!!!!!!! This car has been patched together pretty good. The bottoms of the rear quarters are rotting, and I have a rat sized hole in my left rocker panel. But wheezing along it looks good....

I have been a member of FABO for a while now and I still can't figure out how to create a new post. Can anyone help me out.

Thanx! :thumleft:

How about a FREE 273 (bored .060)?

The motor was rebuilt and installed in July of 06. Still can see the cross hatch in the bores and there is no lip at the top of the cylinders from wear. The heads need a valve job done, steel forged crank, less intake, timeing cover, water pump. Has brand new .441/.441 lift cam with lifters installed.

Come get it if you want it or have it shipped. I know you said 360 but just thought you might be interested.

LOL, Yeah right How many times have other car guys said that.lol

<sigh....> I had to run some errands this morning after I started this post and I was day-dreaming at a traffic light about feeling the vibe of a V-8 idling....and then I found myself driving through side streets checking driveways for dead A body Mopars....and Craigslist....and my Wife is bringing home the local weekly Selling Post or Buy Lines type of used car newspaper.... and maybe I'll do a local search on e-Bay.... Maybe I'll find something..... maybe I'll become obsessed and hunt one down. Maybe Amy will kill me with a baseball bat. :dontknow:

I can see the headlines now...

"HUSBAND DEAD AND WIFE IN JAIL AFTER STROKED 440 PURCHASED FOR DODGE DART"

It was nice knowing you. :-D

TURBO THE SIX!!! Seriously, the slant-6 is a GREAT engine to turbocharge. Get a smallish-size turbo, and then junkyard parts from old turbo'd cars to set it up. It would boost the power to very respectable levels, and probably even boost gas mileage! Mike Holler did it on allpar.com, you can read the article about his turbo 225 /6 Duster and the steps to do it.
