Bought the coupler rebuild kit. Where does the super small pin go?

Mine didnt have the little pin anywhere

thanks

justin
69 dart btw

There are two "pins" in the kit. One is a small roll pin that goes in the steering gear end of the coupler to lock it to the steering gear. The second is a solid pin that holds the sliding shoes of the coupler in place on the steering column.

See "dowel pin hole" in pic. It may be covered with grease. The pin keeps everything from pulling out of the coupler once assembled.

I have the two normal pins but there is a super small one about the size of the "I" on the key of a keybord in there too. Just wanted to figure out where it went

I will look over it again to see if i see the little hole in the picture

thanks guys!

Thats weird i have the print one but didnt see that picture in there i will have to look again

the small hollow pin go's in the lower part of the couple, it holds it to the steering gear box shaft. now if its the solid pin that go's on the end of the steering column and the preload spring and slider bloks fit over that pin..
good luck! junebug340

He's talking about a third pin. That pic shows three. The pic shows the roll pin, the shoe pin, and the one I didn't know about--the dowel pin. Is that the one we are talking about?

Yes that is it.

All makes sens now when i got the coupler it was already apart so that was why it was not there.

what it boils down to is, the cap and seal cant keep the guts in the box. That tiny pin in the rim of the box really couldn't keep the guts inside if it needed to but it will prevent the cap from being poped off with the slightest bump from the guts inside. Without that tiny pin in place the box might fall off faster than you could install the column. I've bumped the things pretty hard against the firewall when removing thh column and was sooo glad that tiny pin was there. :)
