My new acquisition - an 87 Dodge D100 short bed with a slant 6 and 904. Here's the story behind the truck. Several years ago I bought and drove home over 200 miles a 72 Valiant 4 door with a Super Six and 904. I bought it mainly for the motor and transmission. My step-grandson is around 15 years old at the time and asks (practically begs) if he can have the Valiant. So I give him the Valiant. After he got the car home he later decided he'd rather have a truck instead and found this 87 D100 without a motor or transmission. Since the truck was an original slant/904, he asked me if I would get upset if he used the motor/transmission in the truck instead. No problem since the Valiant was now his. After I found him a truck oil pan, he and his Dad (a Chevy guy), swaps pans and pick-ups and swap the motor and transmission into the truck. For some reason, it doesn't run as nice as it did in the Valiant. He asked if I could take a look at it time and schedule permitting. Later I took a look at it, re-routed some vacuum hoses, tried to adjust their home-made kickdown linkage and did some electrical troubleshooting. At the time is was all red and virtually no rust or dents. I did tell him that if he ever decided to get rid of it, give me first dibs. For whatever reason, he decided that the truck just wasn't "him" and bought a longbed Chevy. So 3 years later he calls up and wants to know if I would like to buy the truck. Yes - a definite yes. He wanted $350 for it ($200 for what he paid and $150 for the brand new tires he put on it) plus since I gave him the car which provided the motor, he figured it was a fair price to his Pap Paw. I tried to keep him into Mopars but living with a Chevy-loving Father was a losing battle I guess. When I saw the truck it was all red, but he painted the hood and roof black cause he thought it looked good. I've got a little work to do - replace their home-made kickdown linkage with a correct set-up, replace the manual choke with either a super six choke or go electric, headliner is shot, and the seat is kind of tore up on the driver's side (hmmm, wondering if a newer Ram with buckets and center console would fit). The only rust I've found is on the rear passenger tire outer skin and looks to be an easy fix. Don't know a lot about this vintage truck, but guess I'll learn about them. Anyway, here's a couple of shots of my new Mopar acquisition. Feel free to comment if you've managed to stay awake with my story.

If I could find one around here, in that shape, for $350, I'd be all over it like a fat kid on a smartie! BTW, newer Ram seats will fit, but a little fab work is needed in the seat track to floor area. Enjoy!

can we say 440 six pack. looks nice my kids said is that you truck dad.als

Nice looking Ford truck. I think the short beds look so much better than the longs. Hmmm 440 six pack! Don't have a 6 pack but do have a complete 440 sitting in the basement for future project which I'll probably never get around to..

good looking truck, and a great price. looks nearly identical to my 1st truck, a red 81 short bed with a /6 and 833OD. the 81-93 trucks are my 1st love, ive had several and they have all been drivers. my latest is a 86 swb 4x4 out of georgia. its rust free, needed a trans, and only set me back $500. i picked it up with my 92 cummins daily beater. this is right after i left the sellers house-

i also paid 350.00 for mine but that was back in 86, then drove it home in 90 from fla. to ohio. it, set for 12 may be more. was black then. city told my dad that it had to go. my younger brother had that red body setting in the woods had said i could have it. i wish i would have spent more time on the body when it was off the frame.but i needed it to run. als
