So here goes members, I started a new build. First let me back up and give you a little history on me and why I went with a 74 Scamp.
It was June 9th 1987 and a young 18 year old boy bought a 74 Scamp off a little old lady for $400. It was a baby blue car with a white top. At first i thought there is no way i can make this car cool let along fast. It did come with the 318cid motor. Had wore out leaf springs and hub caps and all. So I took it home and started out by changing wheels and tires and the SS/ leaf springs. Next was paint and motor up grades. Well long story short I got the car running low 13 on street tries. Next came the nasty rust starting to show a few years later. So in 1993 I parted out the car and hauled what was left to the junk yard. Man, I wish I had never did that.
I had been looking for the last few years for another Scamp. I came across a good deal on a solid California car back in Nov of 2015. So the deal was made and I went in Feb/2016 to pick it up. I had never been out west and had some vaction time I needed to use.
I got the Scamp home a week later and in the pole barn and setup to start working on it. I plan to make it look like the old one I had back in the late 80's but just dont need another fast car or money pit. Just a good driver is the plan.
I'll keep the updates coming and as the weather warms up I hope to get more done.

Where in Michigan are you located? That's funny because the 1974 Scamp that I am playing with right now was a baby blue with a white top car also. This one has no rust and had no drive train, so I just put in a fresh stock 318 with a fresh 904 and I am in the process of finishing it up. Hope to have it painted by the end of summer and back together for a daily driver by next spring.
Bob

Sounds like we have just about the same goals. Im putting together a 360 for my build. Im over near Lansing Michigan. Are you keeping the blue interior ?

Got the underside, trunk and inside floor all sprayed in bed liner. Been cleaning parts and organizing things to see what I have or don't have. Mocked up the motor to sort out brackets and bolts.

Yea the blue interior is staying. The whole car is going to be painted the dark blue metallic you see in the engine compartment along with a silver metallic stripe along the back of the deck lid, if I like it it will stay that way. If it needs something else then I will paint the top a silver metallic to match the stripe, the holes are still there for the vinyl top stainless molding's. If that doesn't work then it will get a black vinyl top added back on. I still like the look of a vinyl top. Next time I am up in Holt I will have to let you know maybe we can hook up, I would like to check your Scamp out.

Few more things done yesterday. Got the fender turn signals mounted. Cleaned up the heater box. Not much to a non a/c box. And got block ready to start the rebuild. Its a 360 .040 over.

Looking good Rd
Yes it is looking good. I was over in East Lansing the other day with my daughter to take in a MSU baseball game against Indiana, then we went to the MSU spring game. We had a great time but no time to visit. Maybe next time I will get a chance to look you up.

I took my daughter to the MSU green /white game too.

Think so. The drive side has a crack/hole in in. Going to need a new one. Need to fine out paint code for interior parts. Going to re-spray them.

Well I just got done with the motor. Just need a few small things for it. It's a .040 over 360. A mild cam, just a little bigger then stock. An Edelbrock performer intake. Just building a nice cruiser. Don't need a fast car. All ready have one don't need two.

Picked up a front seat from 440Belll (Ed) last week. Interior is starting to come around. Just need a few more things. And find out the right paint code for the dash.

Been cleaning up the wiring harness for the engine and got a wire with a few plugs on it I dont know what they go to. It dead ends into some kind of relay. Not sure what its for being I didn't take the car apart. If you follow it back from the relay there are two plugs and maybe a ground. Anyone, anyone ????

Hey Brain, I do not have that wire harness on my 74 Scamp nor do I have that relay or what ever it is that's bolted to the fire wall. I do know that the black plug with the two connections right in the middle of the picture hooks up the drier bottle for the A/C mine hooks up on the passenger side of the car and it is located on the outside of the radiator support right between the condenser and the passenger side headlight. Do you know if your car had an after market A/C unit installed on it?

Finished cleaning up the wiring harness. And added a new starter relay. Still need to get a new positive battery cable. Just got one wire Im unsure about. Someone spliced into some of the wires that plugs into ballast resister. Looks like they tried to make some kind of jumper wire ???

Also made a panel for the package tray. Need to cut out of drill a bunch of small holes for the speakers. Not sure witch route I want to go. Then cover it.

Cleaned up the front brake lines today. Hit them with a little clear to try and keep them from rusting again.

Here is a pic from the 74 FSM that shows what that is.

Were you able to get the fender top blinkers wired?

Thanks. Don't think i will wire them in till after I paint car and put harness in for good.

Was messing around with an old gauge cluster. Trying to find something to make the chrome trim around the edges look good. I tried some high heat duct tape. Truned out pretty good for a quick 10 minute job. I didn't even let the black paint dry long enough. I'll take my time on my good cluster I plan on using.
