I think everybody has a sweet spot for certain cars. mine is the demons. i also think that everyone has a dream car. yeah?
well, i wasn t around when most of u older guys were in the heyday of the musclecars, but if i could go all the way back. i would have loved to walk into GRAND SPAULDING DODGE and order a 72 demon 340 the way i wanted it. i would get the GSS upgrade with the paxton supercharger, 727, and god knows what else. thats my dream.
most would say i m crazy for not ordering something bigger and badder, but i m not that hard to please, i guess. ever since i have been into musclecars i ve wanted a 72 gss.
i m not made of money and i can t go back. so i figured the next best thing is to build my own damn car the way i would ve ordered the sucker. and i will have something to pass on to my son.
i scored an N.O.S. paxton kit about 5 years ago. so i had the muscle. i just needed the car.
i ve been himhawin around about getting another demon for sometime, but it had to be a mostly complete 340 car. ( less piecing together ) i found one last year that i was happy with so....... now the fun begins.
it s a slow going process with family, work, money, blah, blah, blah, you know the routine. but i ll keep it updated when i can. thanks for looking.
WARNING: this car was kinda rough when i got it so...if you haven t had a tetna shot for awhile...you might need one after looking at this one. LOL

72 DEMON 340 auto, 3.23. originally GY4 gold(yellow). black bucket interior with console. power steering, 4 wheel drums. 54,000 original miles and has been off the road since 1981. the year i was born, lol. someone put fenderwell headers, X heads, aftermarket intake and carb, and 4.56 gears in it. it had a blue paint job on it at one time.it sat in a wet storage building for a long time.
i couldn t figure out why someone would do all this work to it within 9 years and just park it. til i got it home. it started to make sense. the guy i got it from said the original owner parked it cause he said it was too fast for him.
when i got it home i noticed a small crack in the mud on the lower front passenger quarter. so naturally i took a sharp chisel and whacked it. a chunk of filler popped out over an inch thick. when i stripped the quarter i noticed that it was mashed from the striker post to the center of the wheel lip.
so maybe the guy wasn t lying. maybe it got away from him.

I also have loved demons, my favorite car. I am with you, out of all the cars I could own, i would prefer a demon over anything else. My dream is to have a demon in every factory color they were offered in..

Check out my site I am still putting small stuff on mine but at least I'm driving her after 5 years

heres some pics of the teardown. ive anyone wants to see pics of something in particular for their resto... let me know. it seems like i have a gazillion.

Wow, great car=P~ '72 Demons are probably my most favorite A-bodies. I don't think I ever seen GY4 on a Demon. Could you post some pictures of your rotisserie for me? My dad and I are thinking of making one for my car. A 340 with 4.56 gears is definitely a screamer. Keep up the good work and keep posting your progress. And remember we all like pictures so don't skimp out on them.:-D

Also lets see some pictures of that supercharger you have=P~ And heres one I wish I bought 2 years ago. '72 Demon /6, 3 speed manual, blue with blue interior, Already converted to a 4 speed with an 8 3/4 rear and NOS quarter. Car was solid and I could have gotten it for $2,000](*,)

i ll get some pics of the supercharger as soon as i can dig it out of my closet. would u believe that things been in my bedroom closet for about 5 or 6 years. what a dork..i know.
i found the plans for the rotisserie on the net. i can t remember the name of the site though. it was super easy to build. just a lot of welding. the plans gave me all the lengths and i had my fab shop order it cut it up and drill it.

hey gts340. i figured it wouldn t be long before you sniffed out anything mr. norms. i know you ve got a sweet spot for the gss cars. u also have a real one. i m jealous. lol.
here s some more progress pics. original paint color under the decklid. had to patch the fenderwell header holes. homemade subframe connectors.

how do you know its the only one built like that? awesome car just curious how you got that info. please dont say galen. lol

Chrisf,

It's not my car, wish it was. The owner is well known Mopar collector and the car has been written up a bunch of times. I believe the key is ordered via Spaulding very specifically...Mr. norm had some connections. Assume Galen weighed in too, but don't know that.

Nice Demon! Im new to restoring cars so this was good to look at. I see I have A LOT to learn still. :-D

thanks guys for all the positive feedback.
i think that black demon might have been hyped up to be little more than it is, BUT it is still a beautiful car. black on black is definately my favorite combo. something very sinister looking about it.

stripped the body down to find all the nasty surprises! wasn t bad at all other than the passenger quarter. still got some patch work to do, but overall i m still happy with it. once everything s stripped i will put it in epoxy primer to keep it rust free. then is on to the sand blasting.

You guys can decide for yourself, here's a link about it:

Is there another one in these options, delivered by Spaulding? Anyway, OP sounded interested in the whole Spaulding connection, that's why I posted it.

the black 72 looks like a nice car. should be pretty fast when it is done.

it took me about 1 week to finally get the whole shell blasted clean. workin all weekend and thru the week after work. needless to say.....it sucked. my least favorite part of a resto, but it sure is worth the sand in the eyes, ears and crack, to see clean metal. afterwards, everything was sprayed in epoxy. somewhere in this process, i had to make a new driver front floor pan. i took pics, but they must be on a different disk. next will be dealing with the mashed quarter.

more pics
