Found an aluminum shroud that will work with the 22” oe style radiator

hey guys just wanted to post this up as it may be a perfect fix all to these junky aftermarket plastic shrouds. I stumbled upon wizardcooling radiators thanks to another member on here, @moparspares.
They offer a rad setup for mopar with 22” rad and comes with a aluminum shroud.

I contacted scott at wizard cooling and they were more than happy to sell me just the shroud. After getting some measurements it seems it will fit perfectly with my oe style brass/copper core radiator. Hopefully itll come in next week. I will post my results allong with some pictures and dimensions of the shroud. Will be nice to have a shroud that wont warp.

Lol yeah, but not too bad price for what it is. I paid $180 for the aluminum shroud plus freight. Repro ones are $160-170. I am anxious to see how well it fits to my radiator.
 
So shroud came in yesterday and i got it mocked up tonight, it fits nice against the oe style radiator, have to drill the shroud tomorrow and mount it. I will post pictures with overall dimensions of the shroud

I'm glad you solved your lack-of-shroud problem, and clearly you can live with the well built (but hideous) aluminium one.

Not up my alley...but then again I couldn't handle that radiator cap either :).

hideous , is in the eye of the beholder ! Polished alum. rad. shrouds look kick *** to me .
 
I like it, it matches the aluminum intake, heads and water pump. I originally went with the plastic shroud because it looked stock but there is nothing stock about that 340 lol
 
ok heres some measurements. Please remember that shrouds can vary slightly from one to the other. If you need any other measurements contact Scott at wizard cooling 716-655-6760 Ext 3.

Wizard cooling part # for this shroud is 526-005.

Overall Height. 21 1/16'' Tall.

Heres the finished install, also got my clutch fan mounted up. This shroud fits my radiator way better than the repro plastic shroud did, plus this baby wount warp at all.

Just have to be aware of the space on the radiator where the shroud mounts to. Due to the shrouds walls on the side the minimum width that you can have to mount the shroud is 21 7/8” from center of mounting hole across to center of the other mounting hole. At this width the screws will be right up against the wall of the shroud on the sides as shown in the pictures below. Had to redrill 4 holes in the radiator as the original holes pattern isnt wide enough to mount the shroud. The holes that were drilled ended up being about 1/8” off the edge of the radiator shroud mount flange.

Maybe a 1/8” gap where the indents in the radiator are, believe it or not this shroud is tighter against the radiator than my previous repro shroud.

I just ran across this old article and will probably talk to Wizard soon about this shroud - looks great!
But I'm wondering about your fan/clutch setup. I have less than 3" from the front of my water pump to the fins of the radiator. Do you know if yours is 'thin' enough to fit? If so, do you have a part number for the fan clutch and fan, or what car(s) it might have come from?
All the ones I have found would run into my radiator.

@Jim64 I bought a clutch fan from a member here, that fits an early A with a later style water pump. Pretty sure he said the clutch part of it was a Mercedes unit. I am at the beach right now, but can look after I get home next week if you like. If I forget, send me a PM next week to remind me! LOL
 
So what was the cost? I didn't see it mentioned. Maybe I missed it.
 
When I checked a few months ago, the cost was $200 for the shroud.
Question - is it possible to install the shroud without removing the fan? Alternately, how tricky was it to install the fan with the shroud in place? Looks tight!

Generally speaking ... you have to remove the fan to put the shroud in place. Then you leave it unbolted and laid back out of the way toward the engine until you get the fan bolted in place. Then you install the shroud to the radiator.
