I am looking at getting the conversion done for my 66 dart am radio. The one where they basically replace everything with a tiny, small cpu board. Pricing for the am/fm + aux seems to run between $350 and $400. Which is alot of money for a radio. How does the sound quality compare to a $350 stereo? Anyone done the conversion? I have 4 new speakers btw. Also it appears to be impossible to buy the FMR-2 unit and then install it myself.

I have both my radios done ( 68 coronet, 70 swinger ) and I absolutely love it. Won't have it any other way. Dash looks bone stock, but sound and features are awesome. I crank up the tunes with zero distortion. I use and highly recommend this guy, .... www.ricksradioconversions.com

Get the Bluetooth option, well worth it !

It's well worth doing and whoever you send it to, be sure they use the Aurora conversion. There's another company, AAR, that was doing the same thing, but they've had some service and quality issues and their dealers all quit using their conversion.

I recommend http://garytayman.com/stereo.htm for excellent quality and quick turn around.

I second using Gary Tayman and he uses the aurora conversion. He's done a 71-76 AM/FM for my wagon and as I type this, my model 802 47 Dodge radio is enroute back to me with the same conversion.
