Hi everyone! I am currently searching for a 360 engine to put into my 68 dart. The car currently has a slant six so I was wondering if someone could recommend where to get a motor and any advice when I do the actual swap. Thank you all so much and hope you all have a great day.

    sounds like a plan
you need a few more things though, motormounts, a transmission, a driveshaft (or your shortened) and perhaps a longer throttle cable and kickdown linkage

Chrysler/Fiat isn't doing any more parts so I'd call the MP shop first to see if the actually have it and can touch it. I myself would rather build my own. And do.

    Schumacher creative services.com For swap kits and lots of info. You will also need;

    A small block transmission
(Use the same transmission series you have now. 904/727)

The proper converter. 360's are externally balanced

IF you have the 7-1/4 rear, make a plan to swap in the 8-1/4 or the 8-3/4. The smaller rear is plenty tuff and a hell of a lot cheaper FWIW After rear end swap, you'll need to shorten the driveshaft.

A (new) bigger radiator is a huge help.
    I went to summit

TTI has exhaust for there own headers or the exhaust manifolds you may have all ready.

    Wire strippers/crimpers and some
Electrical wire to shorten/lengthen engine wires.
I went to Lokar for throttle cable and trans kick down. EZ to do.

If it was me, and looking for a drop-in, I'd be shopping for a Magnum. And if you're going for performance, I'd grab an A500 too. Then you can finally run those 3.91 s
Of course a 318 Magnum is no slouch either, so you can get a teener/A-500 out of an older Dakota, or a 360/A-518 out of a Durango. Neither of those transmissions will fit tho without modding the tunnel. Trailbeast has put one in, and I think he has a thread on the how-to.He makes it sound easy.

Good question. Finding a la360 isn't easy. I've looked. Found 2. One wouldn't turn over. The other was not worth the trouble.

I've looked into 5.9magnums and anything under 150k is over $750.

Thank you so much! I will be driving this to school so I want power without sacrificing any reliability. Do you have any motors to recommend?

Yes thank you! I am planning on switching to a manual trans of some sort. I am on a budget so where would you recommend buying my setup?

I really don't know what is available to you on the left coast as over here on the right cost I have 1 - 318
      Engine, 2 - 360 blocks, 3 - 340 blocks collecting dust.

IMO, "The Best" anything is somewhat objective. It come from the school of hard knocks and no dang money.
      LMAO!!!!

Knowing what I know now to answer your question, LAMO, that's easy,

360, LA or 5.9. The differences are small and not worth splitting hairs over at all. You just have to be aware of them. And then build accordingly.

Someone will for sure! Pop in and argue for 1 while the next person in line will argue for the other. Don't bother. Get one and go for it.

Now, again, as before, since I read drive to school and be reliable, find a running 5.9. Even better if you find it in a 2 wheel drive truck as to pirate the OD trans. Because with the OD trans, you can back off the cam timing and run quick while still getting some decent mileage.

It's a no brainer for me here.
That's what I would do in an instant.

So...your gonna need an engine, a tranny, a trannyhump, a driveshaft, a pedal assembly...

If it were me, I'd look for a duster out beaker with the driveline you want and pirate that, then part out the rest to recoup some money

Don't know if it will help you any being out here, but I saw what looked like a pretty nicely built 360 in the Phoenix Craigslist the other day.
KB pistons, milder side performance cam and I think it was in the 2k range.
For that it might be worth the 10 hr round trip on I10.

I have several. Two at machine shop for full machine work. Also have trans to build with 727 or 904.

5.9 magnums go for 150-300 in western PA. They have better heads and a roller cam. Stuff we dreamed about on the LA's back in the day.
Ive done multiple small block swaps on a bodies. You can use shumacher mounts but I prefer a later model LA spool mount k member and steering linkage myself. A v8 throttle cable from any parts store. Trans for an LA. Use a kickdown cable instead of teh linkage for easy installation.
I also prefer the HEi ignition. There are units from 60 bucks imported to 300 for MSd.

That sounds like an awesome idea actually I was looking to put around 350 to the wheels so I was unsure if a stock powertrain would hold up
