manual shift with a column ?

ok so maybe this is a silly question but my tranny in d shifts from 1-2 at about 4k and 2-3 at about 4500 . so i was wondering if it would hurt anything to shift it myself when i go to the strip as long as i dont take it right past to n or reverse so i could shift it at 5-5200 instead . atleast until i get a hold of a diff governor . ty for any info

Banging gears with my column shift trans go kit 904 all the time.

Go for it! I do it all the time in my 69 Dart. Also, it won't go into reverse unless you are pulling the shifter towards you when shifting up past neutral.
