msd 8546 in a 400 engine

I was about to change the cap and rotor on my msd pro billet dist.... my engine is a 1972 400....yes i am 100% sure.... i noticed the PN of the dist in the engine is 8546. 8546 is for the 426/440.... the 8545 is for the 383/400. how is this dist even working in the engine? anyone have exp. with these dist and know whats going on? thanks in advance....:violent2:

May be using a spacer under the distributor? They sell those for just this reason.

ahhh so that is what has been done... thank you sgbarracuda.... the tech charts show a shaft diameter difference the 8545 .461 and the 8546 .501 but gave no other indications... thanks again....
