I've always used iron seal rings in my trans builds , because the teflon ones didn't look right to me .
But since the trans was in pieces , I did an experiment . With the front clutch mounted on the pump i did an air test of the clutch pack , first with the iron rings , then the teflon .
Result : the clutch pack clamped fine with the iron rings but not at all with the teflon rings .

I noticed the same thing as you the first time I tried a bench pressure test but once installed they will work fine under pressure. Been using them for a few yrs. with zero problems

OK that gives me some confidence , i guess atf is thicker than air . do you use the teflon in all areas.

So far I've only used them on the reaction shaft on torqueflites. I've used them in other transmissions in different areas of the trans

yes..the Teflon seems not to work very good on the air test...I use Vaseline to hold them in the groove...
