i have right now a 741 case with 323 and sure grip but i wanna put 410s in it . so would i be better off buying a say 489 case with 410s already in it or should i just find gears for the 741 . i have a mild 360 with a 727 auto street/strip car . thanks for any thoughts

It is easier just to put in a whole 3rd member all ready set up, if you can afford it.....Just put it in.....If you put gears in your existing 741 you have to reset the teeth pattern which you may have the ability and knowledge to do, maybe not? I don't know your skills.....but it will still be 150-200 for a ring and pinion gear set anyway.....If you spend 4,5, or 6 hundred on another chunk you can just swap it out and keep the 3.23 for spare or sell to recoup some of the cost...

742 and 489 cases are easy to find, if you plan to buy new parts to rebuild one just find one of those. Putting $$ into a 741 is a waste, it will break eventually with high torque and abuse.

Set the working 741 center aside as a spare, always good to have a working unit around in case of a failure.

I'd buy another chuck 742 or 489 already setup the 741 is the weakest of the 8 3/4 center sections..
