What does the -3 mean and the
LL?
I'm assuming it's a 383.

Hmm, I'm.not so sure.
The pic is from a question on Facebook. I looked at my original 383 on my car and it has the same LL, but also has -10. Surely they didn't have 10 shifts.

The Dash number at the end of the casting number refers to the number of core changes that have been made on that set of core patterns.

the -3 or -7 or -10 is the pattern revision number, a modification made to the pattern-usually for the better. the pattern is used to make the sand mold. the shift is indicated by an arrow pointing at a D or N
