Hi All,
I have a choice to make and need your opinions.
I had a post a few months back about my 318 having a cracked cylinder and needing to replace motor.
I have found a recent long block that has a fresh .30 overbore with 285NP 0.30 pistons (Federal Mogul?). I am not sure of the cam but measures @ .302 at the lobe. Guessing around .454 at valve. Pretty mild but that's ok for this car (68 Fastback).
The question is this. I have a set of 53007714 heads (302's) and I have the heads that came with the long block. They are J heads from a 360 and appear to be ported and have .202 valves installed. I haven't cc'd them but they appear to have been milled.
The pistons are flat tops with 4 small reliefs and sit @.100 in the hole.
Which heads would be better for this engine? I realize the closed chamber head would increase the CR but don't know if the J heads with the porting and .202's will make this thing a dog with the current cam.
I will be using my LD4B intake with 600 Eddy and Hooker headers.

Thanks

Thanks......I am leaning toward the "302's" also. The J heads will replace the 587's on my coupe..
