A Body Shorty Stainless Headers

-
Hey guys, I think I may have found a source for tti style full length or shorty no drag link involvement stainless headers. I was trying to get a set of dakota headers to fit my 70 dart as they were only 120 shipped for stainless headers and contacted the guy who makes them and told him he could probably do very well offering a mid level header for us a body guys as we have a great selection of headers from 100-250 non stainless and then the high dollar ones. No one offers a stainlessfull length a body header tti style for 200-300 bucks. If he can offer a dakota shorty for 100 bucks then a full length set shouldnt exceed 250 bucks. He seemed interested and said that I should see how many people were interested. What would be the best way to do that here/ Put up a post asking to send a reply if you were interested in a set and guage interest from the responses.

Tell the dude to join up here and see for himself how many people on ONE forum alone would be interested. No better teacher than experience.

These are a real nice looking piece. My car is a 4 speed with power steering and brakes though so Im S.O.O.L.

Those headers are BAD ***.............I would sign up for a set of these no problem. Makes the TTI look like a POS! I need all the ground clearance I can get on my 67 Dart GT! And Yes I have a set of TTI's

Some of you guys are making me laugh. You want something that is far more complicated and time consuming to make than a driveshaft for far less than what a driveshaft costs. The fit is claimed to be better than tti's and yet you want them for less than 1/2 the price? Some of you had better never get into shoving a 2g Hemi into an a-body, you might have a stroke when you find out what the going rate is for a "quality custom" set of headers...

No Kidding the guy was saying $700.00-$800.00 if only 25 people signed up for the deal. That is flippin CHEAP!! I will take 2 of them!

Spoke with Mark several times in the past few months, normally the summer is his slow time. Called to talk to him about 6 weeks ago, he said he had worked lined up clear to fall. Sure some people do not need the stuff he builds, then just look else where. He told me that if I knew what diameter my exhaust tubing was going to be that he would build my headers to compliment the exhaust. Lets see the home header builders to that. When I get to the point of needing headers, I will be going to Mark, even if I got to wait. And he is not close to me, I believe it is about 1000 miles to his shop.

I've contacted him several times myself. He knows there is interest in his headers.

When Chevy and Ford guys have been able to catch Blackjack headers THAT FIT WELL on sale for 79 bucks for the last 30 plus years, I don't see a darn thing wrong with Mopar guys wanting the same thing. Just because some are able to pony up 800 plus bucks for a "good" set of headers doesn't mean everybody can. The market has all but ignored Mopar in many aspects for years. Just go to the Edelcrap site and look how many different intake manifolds there are for the small Chevy VS the small Mopar. It's ridiculous. I've wanted a high rise dual plane spread bore intake for the small Mopar for a long time. Nobody makes one....yet somehow, there are like 3 different Chevy part numbers from ONE manufacturer. That's just stupid. Like the old saying says, a fool and his money are soon parted. If yall wanna pay that ridiculous amount for headers, knock yourselves right on out. All these "specialty" header makers have yall fooled. Their headers ain't gonna make 600 bucks more worth of power than a 200 buck set of good old Hookers. .....and to me, even 200 bucks is too dang much when Chevy and Ford guys can have good fitting headers for around 100 bucks. Plain and simply, you don't get what you pay for. You get what you demand. The demand for quality affordable Mopar parts has never been as strong as those for Chevys and Fords, so you'll never see the same level of parts for Mopars.

but difficult is the fitment between the ford & chevy headers and the mopar headers?

While i agree that the 600$ price tag is a bit fluffed up, i wonder if we could never get a set of 100$ headers with good fitment because of the extra twists involved in our cars?(atleast on one side.

I was thinking the same thing.

I thought unequal lengths was the science behind performance headers. Doesn't the length compensate for unequal firing order?

I think you have it backwards. Anytime I got a custom set of headers made ALL tubes were the exact same length into the collector.

Soon as i get to the point of needing 2" primary headers again I'll get another set of used b or c body headers at the swapmeet. chop, bend and weld. not pretty and nolonger equal lenth and still breath WAY better than 1 3/4" ones or try-y's.
I also have s/b headers that front pipe gos through the K-member hole ( left front of engine). this 440 powersteering + 727 is tight. I'm thinking drivers side maybe front pipe through k-member, second over top to firewall then down, third in front of mini starter down and last around steering shaft. I just donot want to cut up the inner fenders. Rains too much here. The Mazzolini /TTI version of Proparts headers have the third pipe going around the s/shaft but through the inner fender( read cut ).

I'm intermediate at best when it comes to performance modifications and such so probably am backwards. The reason I thought that is from watching an episode of "Two Guys Garage" where they installed headers on a new Camaro and he went into great detail about exhaust "pulses" and header length. It seemed pretty convincing. Watch this starting at 7:07 and tell me what you think.

Unless you have money to burn and you want to squeeze every last horse out of your combo I would suggest some off the shelf inexpensive headers. I have seen many dyno tests on small block mopars and the horsepower gain was between 18 and 25 horsepower on headers vs stock exhaust manifolds. If you need to spend 6-800 bucks to feel that youv'e not let a single horse get away then go for it.

i don't know. i have seen a ton of power steering chevys with bashed in tubes just to make the header fit..

man this thread will give ya a headache reading through it.. custom headers for a song and dance? not gonna happen. you have two choices. either cough up some cash for something that fits and works or go cheap and get what ya get. once these shorties get in the price of a tti why bother? my tti's don't hang low and my starter is easy to get to and my steering doesn't go through them and the plugs are cake to get to.

this thread sums up way too many mopar guys. they want want want till they see the price isn't 99 cents. i'm sure not rockafeller over here and i find a way to get what i want. if i have to save for 6 months for a set of headers then thats what i do. if i have to sell some stuff i have then i sell some stuff i have. cash just doesn't show up over night. ya do what ya gotta do man. and between us, i thought tti headers cost too much also, right up until i installed a set on my dart. holy crap man are they built and fit nice.

perfweld, man you look to do some awesome work..

I'm looking for some type of header combo that will work with the long fast ratio pitman. Any ideas???

Spitfire I think might work.

Or at this point try a Coleman mini steering quickner fabricated into the steering column. They are like around $150.

I don't buy that crap. All it would take is ONE company to offer something affordable that fits. Just one. All the others would almost have to follow suit to stay in the game. I mean......once the R&D is down, it's all downhill from there. So Mopars have one or two more turns. Big deal. That's not worth the cost difference. Ain't no way. The only reason is so few companies offer Mopar astuff to begin with, there's not much competition. More competition, and the prices will have to drop.

its all you man.. start that company up and sell a quality header for $150. you'll make millions in no time.

I also agree that cost is a issue, for all the years I have been at the local track and noticed more fords and chevies. Well the answer is cost and it is more money to build a Mopar. With that being said I think that the shorty headers look great, and wish I could afford them. As it has already been metioned I have taken the road of building with what I can get my hands on I will be using 92 Dakota manifold, I got a set for 40 bucks, that is cheap enough for me to afford and for a street car I am not losing that much in the way of performance, in the header vs manifold debate. I wish you luck in this venture and if enough people buy them and the price comes down I might think about a set, until then I will stick with cheap alternatives to gaining horsepower..............
