Ma Mopar needs to learn a Thing or 2 about HP/Weight ratios for the Challenger

-
This has allways been a well known issue and a constant biitch of MoPar owners from even back in the day with a few exceptions like the Duster with it's light weight.

"stock" and "tune" are some very open terms when it comes ET's.

The Drag Pack Challengers are 1000lbs lighter.

That video has been out for awhile, the new stang' has got it all over the challenger,ma mopar take note...

Yeah Stock was 364 at the tires tuned was 405 at the tires. Also has full interior and all the bells and wistles unlike the drag pak chally's with no vin.

Believe me I'm not running out tomorrow and buying a mustang I just wish the powers that be would give us Mopar guys something new like this to play with while our projects are getting done.

Ya,but the stang in the video if fully loaded the way you buy it off the showroom floor, unlike the striped down challenger..if you want to talk drag packs the stang' is quicker there too,Tasca Ford is in the 8's with their's...

Of the new "retro-styled" cars, it seems that the mustang is the only one to retain the muscle-car mojo. The others (camaro, charger, challenger) are marketed to older drivers who remember musclecars, but don't want to give any comforts up. Maybe I'm getting a little old for it, too because I think some of the new mustangs are getting crazy. The Shelby KR500 and Supersnakes have like 550-700 hp. That's a traffic fatality waiting to happen. If you have the willpower to NOT do something stupid with a car that small and 700 hp, you will not be driving a mustang in the first place.

They used to know any way. Thats why they were cramming BB and Hemis in to A bodies back i the day. But it does look like they forgot all about that. But I think it is just that the things most are looking for in a car have changed. Most people want things like. AC and PS and 28 way power seats and windows, GPS ect. All the safty bracing and air bags don't help either.

Yep, once again, the challenger gets it *** whooped. LOL... Sad, but true...Still, I believe the chally has the looks though...The camaro is uglier than ****, and so it the new mustang with its long droopy looking rear end...Come on dodge, step up...put a 550 HP 392
in that sucker already, and drop 500 pounds for the 2012 year...lol....if the earth is still around...LOL

ME 2!!!! Even though the Drag Pak Challenger is a 1,000 lighter, Here at least, you can not put that on the road since it is devoid of saftey items required by law to have, so that's out! And that SUCKS!

Blame Mercedes. Between their chassis design and laminated metal that DCX inherited, the thing was doomed :)

I love the Challenger, but its not a muscle car. Its an image car.

You can't even find a Challenger on the lot that doesn't have heated bucket seats and navigation.

The stick shift is a more expensive option. Really? Who are they selling this thing to?

I wish the latte drinkers would go back to buying Bimmers so we could have a real muscle car again.

It even kind of looks porky. Its the high school reunion version. LOL!

Problem is, it's a small percentage of people who could afford a true "muscle car" (read: not suitable for a daily driver) as well as a family car. Out of the percentage that could afford it, not many want to. The target market is so small,it doesn't make sense to target it at all. Personally, I just wish they'd drop the price on all the aftermarket parts so that BUILDING a muscle Mopar would be as cheap as doing up an F-body or Fox body.

Oh yeah the speed factory 75k challengers That all can be done for under 10G but since they packaged it together it's an extra 25g. Don't get me started on those boys.

I guess it all depends on where you buy your Challenger...

Sooo, on top of the ...what? 40K you spend on the car itself, you want to spend even more money on upgrades?

For the price that is slowly climbing, I'll jump ship and get ethier the very cheap & upgradeable Stang or just get a Vette.

And lets not even think about the 6 psi of boost they put on the Chally's at Speed Factory being put on that mustang.

Ma Mopar ain't interested in **** cept makin money. Sorry to bust any bubbles, but there it is. When you got CASH IN HAND and the Chrysler dealer won't BUDGE on the price, they ain't carin about a damn thing but money. It ain't like back in the day when they actually gave a damn about their drag racing program....cause they HAD one. It's no secret Ford has been doin pretty well through all this economic hooha, so no surprises that they have a better performance version of the Rustang. Had Chrysler saved at least ONE damn rear wheel drive car through the last almost THIRTY FRIKKIN YEARS, they'd be in a better position to compete. All they are tryin to do now is just survive, so performance stuff is the last thing on their mind. I got news......if they really wanted to and were interested, all these new Hemis they got would be the damned fastest things out there. All they are is basically stock big inch motors. there really ain't much performance about um.....cept maybe a good induction and exhaust systems. You can get a Rustang or Cajunko that actually has a little bit of a rumble right off the showroom floor. The Challengers are all quiet and smooth as all hell. Caint even hear one ride by. But a shelby GT500 or one of them high dollar Cajunkos will kinda shake the ground a little goin by. A little. Like I said in another thread floatin around here.....Chrysler needs to bring back the Road Runner. Now would be the perfect time. They're too damned busy tryin to make everything too damned luxo to make a real hot rod, though.

I see your point, but if that's the argument, why are the Mustang and Camaro SO much cheaper and so much faster?

And what's the percentage of people who can afford a Challenger SRT anyway? It costs more than the damn Shelby!

They're banking on either brand loyalty (Mopar or no car) or lack of market awareness to sell cars. As we have seen, brand loyalty is not enough to keep Chrysler afloat (2 bailouts), and customer ignorance is not a bankable strategy. How many people would still spend the Shelby money to buy the Challenger SRT if they knew the regular Mustang GT would wax it and that the frigging 6 cylinder Mustang will give it a serious run for its money? (they run mid 13s off the showroom floor)

All this talk about the "target market," Chrysler is looking in the WRONG PLACES! Young people still want to buy fast cars that don't cost a fortune. Every time I see a new Challenger it's being driven by a middle-aged man, while almost every Rustwang is being driven by some young punk who thinks he's hot sh**. Camaros seem to be in-between...

But seriously Chrysler has been revamping their cars BIGTIME since the Fiat buyout/merger/whatever, just check out the brand-new Durango, Chrysler 200, or minivans (allpar.com), and before that the new Ram trucks. The designers and engineers are finally being allowed to make their cars BETTER and listen to their customers. Last-gen Sebrings/Avengers were junk (slow, poor ride, ugly), now the new ones will have the Pentastar V-6 with radically upgraded interiors and retuned suspensions. Think about it, car companies spend more money and time first on their most profitable models then move onto their less important "halo"-type cars. I bet you by 2012 there will be a new Challenger with much more horsepower, less weight, and hopefully a lower-cost high performance trim level.

And beyond that, don't forget the new Pentastar V-6s are supposed to be getting turbos in the near future. Avenger SRT-6 TURBO, yeah baby!
