Thanks for sharing!
Definitely unique comparing to north american a bodies, i love 'em!

Thank you very much my friends !!
It's so good to see our beloved A-Bodies making good success among our fellas, it's a honor to share these images with you and so many good stories we can say about this huge meeting...
And this sunday was very special, I ran about a hundred miles on our 79 Dart with our family on the road, so nice to see that old "SWOOOOOSH" V8 feeling coming through again...

Buzian - Thanks much for sharing ! Great photos !
You guys down there ( as well as Mexico ) got some Darts ( et al. ) which were appointed much nicer than our
U.S. versions .

Out of curiosity , is the plant ( or plant ) that built these cars still in existence ?

very cool!! I love those chargers!!!! all those cars are very unique...its odd to see a 71 dart have a 69 us style grill on it!!

Thanks for sharing your cool pics! But I do love the most is the '70-'71 Dodge D or W300 rollback.

Very cool! I must get down there for the next Brazilian Mopar Nats! Are the dates out for next year, and where is it located? My boss has business partners in Brazil, maybe I can talk him into visiting!

LH23H2R,

Here in Brazil we had a quite different marketing tag for the Darts because they were considered some "luxury & expensive cars" for Brazil, that's why they had some changes from the original project that was made in the USA.
The Chrysler factory started life back in 1959 at São Bernardo do Campo, SP when Simca Motors was able to build their own cars. Eight years after Chrysler bought the Simca lines here and refurbished the old "Vedette" car, rebadging it "Esplanada".
Here's a factory picture of the car:

And here's the first Chrysler of Brazil headquarters shot:

This car had a two-year's life and was dismissed in flavour of the 1969 Dodge Dart, the exact car that was made in the US market at that time. The only configuration possible here was the four-door sedan with the 318 V8 engine and the classic three-on-the-tree trans combo. All stuff was locally made, including the engine, a very few parts came from the US.
Here are some pics from the very starting, taken back in 1969.

The final assembly line:

The water inflitration test in the final assembly:

The production on the pillarless coupé started back in the end of 1970, again using the 1969 american project.
Here's a shot taken from the very first model in front of the factory with some brazilian staff workers:

And here's a picture taken from inside the assembly line, back in 1973 when Chrysler started the small Dodge 1800 lineup as you may see a rolling body in the left (in US market this one was dubbed as the Plymouth Cricket):

This brazilian factory was again sold to Volkswangenwerk only ten years after, in 1979, and again the Dodge lineup products stopped production in early 1981. By that time they produced exactly 92.492 Darts in all configurations, including the variants like the Charger, Magnum & LeBaron types. This was made in favour of building the first VW trucks in the world, these were started by early 1981 too.
The truck production line was transfered to a brand new location at Resende, Rio de Janeiro VW plant in early 2000 and the original Chrysler buildings were put on sale. They finally sold all abandoned complex in 2004 and after two years later they finally put all buildings down. Today this place held a huge deposit for a local department store.
These pictures were taken by some very good fellas that could go inside the empty buildings just some days before the plant was finally dismantled.

Mopardude,

This seems that our cars used the same grilles from the 69 models until 1972, then they made a plastic different ones...
In the 1979 lineup models we used the american 1975/76 front end clip and the rear for the Darts, they stopped production only on 1981.

Rhinodart,

Our Mopar Nats are usually held on a hotel located about a hundred miles from the city of São Paulo.
We're not having the definitely dates for the 2011 event, but be prepared for this happening between September or October the next year.
I'll inform you as soon as I get the correct information, hope to be there too with our baby 79 Dart !!
See ya there, my friend !!!

Mario

Wow those are some pretty cool cars!! Seeing the assembly line and the old factory pics was just as cool! Sad to see it go.

Thank you buzian!
Really enjoyed the pics.
Nice to see a mopar presence in a different part of the world too.

Yeah, this was too sad when the cars stopped production...And unfortunately this fact happened again not long time ago here in Brazil: in 1998 Chrysler Corp. decided to build the Dakotas locally too...They did it in a short four-year run and closed the factory again in 2002.
This was very hard for us Mopar lovers...Today we can only import some of your great cars and a very close friend of ours is making such a remarkable work collecting some of the best original A-body Dodges produced here, and hosting a blog, forum & website for this, called "Museu do Dodge", even with a physical place to keep the cars too!!
His name is Alexandre Badolato, from São Paulo.
Here are some pics taken recently on his great Dodge collection:
