Well I dropped the hemi in the car last weekend, and it was a complete failure. I contacted a friend of mine, and asked him to get me one of every hemi oil pan ever made or that he could get his hands on. We looked at the pans, (I had one from the truck, the car, and a durango/jeep) We decided since the durango pan was sort of a mid sump we would give it a shot. Unfortunatly the pan is not mid sump enough, it still hit the stearing. We did learn non of the factory pans will work. We were hopeing to save some cash and avoid the expense of an aftermarket pan. Ooh well live and learn I guess.

We did find out that if you want to twin turbo the hemi the best route is to run the exhaust manifolds. They can be swapped and bolted on facing forward (after drilling and tapping a few new holes for the bolts) To get them to look the same from side to side you need the manifold off of a Ram and a Jeep Grand Cherokee. You need one of each. I cant remember if its the passnager side Ram manifold and the drivers side Jeep one or vice versa. But they end up dumping out the front it just about the exact same spot. We might see about some of the other manifolds out there as the Jeep and Ram manifold do angle down, and it would be nice if they angled up or more to the side. So we will have to play a little more to see what will work best. So far the setup we have now seems like the best fit.

After the holidays, I plan on getting the TTI motormounts. Since there is no room in the car to fab our own. That and I really want the motor in and done, so that I can move on to the rear end and ladder bars. Then plumbing for turbos begins. 8)

......Hopefully someone who has done the swap will chime in as there seems to be quite a few that have done them...good luck.........kim....

We were looking at "clearancing" a factory pan, basically cutting out a section and welding it in with sheetmetal... as long as you keep slope toward the pickup and don't block it, that should work. Would have to look at how much capacity you lose though.

we looked at clearanceing the factory pan as well. But according to the pics we looked at of the milidon pan, the rear part of the sump starts close to the 4th bolt hole from the rear of the pan. And goes forward from there. Anf the 4th bolt hole is even with the front of the sump on the durango pan. So we scrapped the idea. Now it's possible to buy the milidon pick up and graft a hami pan and a 318 pan together, but by the time you spend your time doing it you might as well buy the milidon one.

I'm not worried about those that have already done it. I'm trying to help those out there that might be thinking if a different pan will work. Since I have access to every factory part to "try" anything and it's free to use. I figured I'll give it a shot if it will save money and the info will benefit everyone. I now know that you have to use an aftermarket pan, and I now know that none of the stock stuff will work.everyone talks about ram and charger parts, and never about other cars that the hemi came in like the durango and jeep. So I'm trying it all so the next guy with the idea dosent have to buy parts that don't work.

so your some what of a test mule lol "taking one for the team" i like that

keep us informed

lol yeah I guess. I know it's easy to install the motor with dollars, anyone can do that. I want to know what parts work for a guy like me that has limited funds. I'm worryed about how I'll pay for a trans and how to buy the turbo parts I need. So I gotta see if I can save as much as possible in other places. I have about $150 a week disposable income to build the car so it's tight but it will work out in the end. At the same time though, I'll spend it when I need to. Nothing like gaining the knowledge allong the way. Once I have motor mounts I'll be loking at all the possible combos of exhaust manifolds that will work for my turbo's as well as for someone who just wants to leave the motor N/A as well.

you've got my attention i'll be following along. trying to pick up knowledge along the way also. i was going to buy a durango pan a few weeks ago maybe its good that i didn't

Man me and you are one the same mission! To make this swap as affordable as possible for the regular guys that don't have 30 grand laying around so they can just drop their car off at a shop.

well I'm glad you didn't buy the pan. It saves you a few $$ for something else. :)

yeah we are on the same mission. I like that we are using different stuff though as it will give people some options as well. That's the best part about it.

Just an FYI, I had trouble with the Milodon and Charlies oil pans not fitting with the Alter K, so I bought a Canton pan and it worked out great. Don't know if you will have a similar issue, but thought I would just mention it.....

I've been told by Bill that the truck pan will work with the alterkation. Haven't tried it yet but I plan on getting there soon...

What did you do with your charlies and Milodon pans that didn't work?

I can see the truck pan working with the alterkation since the rack is moved.

timcup. I'll grab the milidon pan from summit. If it doesn't work I'll return it, and get something else.

yes it will work with the alterkation. That is what 5.7dart used in his barracuda build. You can pick up a new one from the dealer for about $50

The only problem with the truck pan is that it hangs down pretty low. I did not want it past the k-frame. Most guys it is not an issue, but my car is pretty low in the front (5" ground clearance) to the k.

Does the Durango pan clear the stock K-frame ok?
Any pics comparing one pan to another?

For our 67 Baracuda, I was planning on designing mounts for front mounted rack&pinion. So I just need a pan to clear the k-frame.

I have the Mopar pan on mine. Fits no problem. Looks alot like the Milodon.

the k frame was not the issue. It's the steering that was the issue. And unfortunately I did not get any pic. I have the torsion bars out of the car so the car was really low. We had a hard time just looking under it to see why the motor would not slide back any further. If your replacing the steering it should not be an issue to use the durango or the truck pan.
