Cheapest ways to increase power

-
This is why i want my dart to be fast. Its going to be a sleeper so i can destroy those ricers. On the strip, and on the street(dnt tell the cops ;) )

Then do a V8 swap. I love my slant, but they're NOT about going as fast as possible for the least amount of money. They're about being different, and not CARING about what other people like, whether they're ricers, V8 guys, or Chevy fans.

best bet would be to buy a donor a body, a 4 door with a v8. it would scoot pretty good with a set of headers dual exhaust and a dual plane intake wit ha small 4 brl. the same upgrades you would get a much better improvement than if you did that to the slant. your going to have to shave about 5 seconds off your et to be beat a lot of the ricers.

I've heard the ricer guys say you get 100hp by adding those cool graphic stickers to the side. And if you get a fart can muffler thats another 150hp easy...

Jeff
Don't forget adding a wing gives the most power and it grows with the size of the wing:toothy10:

Thats not bad. Only thing is, i want something that gives me constant power. Like for example a CAM, which i cannot afford since they are all like 500+

I don't know who is selling cams for $500 a pop, but he's gonna starve if that's his main gig. List on either of the two Comp Cam shelf grinds is $143.95, hydraulic or mechanical. With the part #, you should be able to order from Summit and get some discount, too.

Do like these guys did.......
Lighten the load and increase the power !!

get yourself the super six setup (factory 2 bbl), free up the exhaust with a performance muffler like a cherry bomb or something (if you have more time than money, you can gasket match your manifolds to try to get them to flow a little better, add a windage tray, then if money allows get a performance erson cam and get the head machined for more compression and better flow. a set of rear end gears (3:23s or 3:55s) will really wake the car up too 3:91s would most likely be too much. you could always add header or a set of dutra duals to keep the factory choke. a clutch fan or electric fan will also free up a little power.

Cudaguy,
My older brother (with the 1 ton Dodge van) sent me the picture.
I'll ask him were he found it.

Think about it, man: you're not gonna be satisfied with a stock small block. You're going to wanna make that faster, too. When you get finished spending all that coin and dust some clown in a Rustclang at the strip, you'll have done it with a V8, and that's cool, but imagine building a 225, saving a whole $h!+-ton of jack and seeing the look on the other guy's face when, after you blow his doors off, you pop the hood to reveal a slant 6.

besides, V8 swaps can be prohibitively expensive if you're on a tight budget.

To get a \6 to out run a GT Mustang is going to cost a bunch, very close to as much as swapping in a v8.

This is the reason I'm dropping in a 318 to my /6 '75 Duster. I know it's going to be pricey, but it'll be worth it.

I've got a stock /6, and I've been in two drags(stop light to stop light) both cars were ricers(sp?) and I smoked both of them. Fun times while using a /. But I want a V8 lol.

Thanks for the laugh.............

It could be done on a stock slant. A stock slant would stand a 125 HP shot of nitrous. With a header and a small four barrel carb even a stock slant would be a holy terror when the little blue button was mashed. Long as it doesn't lean out, you're ok. The more I learn about slants, the more I like um. They won't ever be a V8 cause they ain't V8s.

jezz what were they? geo metros with a misfire? not to bash the slants performance but its second up from the slowest car ive ever driven the slowest would be a 65 fiat 500... i had a good race with my brothers old ford festiva i think it was a 1.3l or something, and my buddy dustins 2.3l 4 cyl 93 fox 5 speed. thats about it tho

Yep, and 318's ain't exactly lightning bolts either. I guess it's all relative. When I was a kid, we laughed at 318's. But we were comparing them to "real" small blocks and big blocks, not rice.
Just my opinion...

What would it take money and parts wise to make a slant have the power of a stock 318?

Thats what I would be looking in to.

Haha, nope. One was a '99 Honda Civic, and the other was a Subaru(Hatchback, thing lol) The funny part was, the guy driving the Honda had his girlfriend with him at the time, we both ended up pulling into the same shopping center and he came up to me to ask what was under the hood. I said a stock slant 6 haha.

The 318 most people refer to was the 230 HP 318. It's certainly workable for a naturally aspirated slant. Lots of custom head work for sure.

You can do a lot with nitrous but the orignal poster siad he didn't want to use nitous. Also, headers, 4bl intake and 4bbl for a \6 is going to be close to a thousand bucks not to mention the $400 or so for a basic nitrous set up. That is close to the cost of a sb swap.

Building a \6 to make v8 levels of power is something you have to want to do, its not going to be cost effective compared to an engine swap. I will try and dig the photos out tonight and post them. I know a guy that built a multi-point fuel injected and turbo charged \6 for a 39 Willys pick-up he built for his shop truck. Even that engine doesn't have the power of a mildly warmed over sb but for a shop truck its perfect. This guy also has a blown hemi in a 41 Willys pick-up that he uses to scare women and make small children cry.
