Hey everybody. Got some questions, heres the scenario.

71 Demon: great running little /6, floor shifted 3speed manual, non-power steering and non-power drums all the way around.... no frills here baby!!!

1. Tranny mount: Will a stock 727 set up go right in or are the crossmembers different on the manual cars? This is actually gonna be my 3rd RB A-body (both 1970 Dusters) but both conversions were SB/727 to RB/727 so I didnt have to think about the tranny.

2. Pedal Assembly: Can I remove just the clutch pedal from the assembly and call it a day or do I need to swap in an automatic pedal set up? Im on a budget so if I can save a little $cratch on this step id rather modify something I already have versus making a purchase.

3. Drain Pan - The entire drivetrain (motor/tranny/driveshaft/rear end) is coming out of a great running '66 New Yorker that I picked up on the cheap. It was originally a 360 car and i dont know what the 440 came out of originally. Does the fact that the pan works in the New Yorker automatically mean mean that the pan will work in the Demon? How can i tell if i have the right pan?

4. Motor Mounts - Has anyone had experience with the Trans Dapt motor mounts? I was trying to research the answers to my other questions and I came across a post talking about these mounts. Have they been around for a while? Hows the quality? Theyre way cheaper than the Schumacher set ups I used which is awesome & worriesome @ the same time. Did I shell out WAY too much dough the last 2 times or are these mounts poorly built, flimsy and end up giving me motor/header fitment issues? Do they locate the motor to where you can use the headers that are already out there or do you have to use a specific one? Im already in un-charted territory with this manual - auto conversion and I dont need to add clearance nightmares to the mix!!!

Im at the beginning stages of this swap so any info that can be thrown my way would be GREATLY APPRECIATED!!! I have the running Demon and the running New Yorker but I havent started buying my swap parts yet. Im trying to hold out for the Spring Fling to see if I can find some deals there. (I'll be posting in the parts for sale and parts needed forums as soon as im done with this one)

Again, thanks in advance to anybody that can shed some light on my diemma!

IIRC,tranny mount should work/727 will fit/pedal can be removed, no prob/I believe the pan should work-it should be a center sump pan, I believe the chrysler C had the center sump pan- if not get one for a B Body, 69 vintage 383/ I would stick with the Schumacher's motor mounts, they are proven and the design has been been upgraded to make them stronger. Yeah I know they are more $ but.....
Only thing you may not like about removing the clutch pedal is the placement of the brake pedal itself....It would be better if you could find an actual auto equipped pedal.
Should not be hard to find.

.............I have my pedal under the carpet in case i ever want to go back to 4 gear....removed spring....welded a flat piece of metal to the brake pedal............kim........

thanks a bunch Omaha! You put my mind way at ease ;) and i like what you did old kimmer, im partial to the 4 speed cars anyway so if i ever come across a motor and bell housing, id already have the pedal assembly and tranny hump... tempting! heck i might just leave the pedal there and randomly push on it to confuse my passengers!!! again, thanks for the info you guys, it really helped a lot!

If i had the hump and pedals already in the car, I would find me a 4 speed and go that route, but that just me. Matt

Im with you buddy! But unfortunately I have more time than money and I have a set up thats ready to go in as-is so ill stick with that for now, but if I come across the right bits I need to swap over to the 4 speed @ the right price ill definitely jump on 'em!!!

Also, Has anyone ever shortened an 8.75 out of a C-Body for use in an A-Body? Im planning on using the one out of my donor car ('66 New Yorker) but I heard theres an issue with the axles not being able to the resplined???

Trade you an auto pedal assembly for your clutch pedal assembly. :happy10:

Leave the clutch pedal there and put it under the rug.
66 w/ a 360? Edit: I guess you meant 361?

erh? 361? i dont think so. i decoded the vin online and it said 360. ill have o go back and double check that.

360 was a smallblock that didnt come out until 1971. 361 was a low deck big block from the 50's and 60's not sure of the exact years. SpeedThrills is right, a '66 would never have had a 360 from the factory.

oh man... if what you guys are saying is true, i may have made a seriously careless mistake here!!! the guy i got the New Yorker from told me it was a 440, i opened the hood, saw that front mounted distributor, took it for a test drive and wrapped the deal up right then and there. holy smokes... has anyone ever gotten that sinking feeling in their stomach?

HadAHemi & SpeedThrills, thank you guys so very much for the info!!! i dont know the first thing about those motors and if id even wanna swap thing into the Demon. At least its a B-family motor so its not that bad, but i dont know if its worh it to have a 361" Big Block!!! first im gonna verify exactly what i got going on and decide from there. Again, thank you very very much, you guys rock!

oh, and 67Valiant100, no thanks on that pedal swap. im actually partial to the 4 speeds so i kinda like the head start i already have, thanks anyway tho ;)

That's alright. Good luck with your Demon! I've never heard of someone do an A-body with a 361. I think I'm the only A-body owner that's using a 413 engine. These big blocks are oddities :)

No problem, double check that vin again, and ID the block...I'm interested to see what you really have.

If there is a flat in front of the driver's side front valley pan bolt, it's and RB (413 or 440). If there is no pad there, but there is a large flat just below and to the pass side of the distributor hole its a B wedge (361,383).

hey guys,
just decoded the vin again and its definitely a 440 car ('66 was the first year it came on the new yorker) - its just weird that the vin decoder i used back when i bought it (dont remember which one i used) said 360 and the guy i actually got the car from told me the exact same thing! I have the New Yorker parked at my brothers friends shop right now so i couldnt id the motor last night but im gonna move it from there over to my sisters place this week so ill verify the motor for sure in the next few days but im not expecting any big surprises tho. whew! that was a weird little hiccup!
thanks for all the input everyone, it all helped alot!
