Snarky, cryptic comments about a fellow FABO member's thread? How is that contributing anything positive? Do you notice that all the other posters besides you feel the subject of respect is worthwhile? HHmmmmmm???

I was going to say something about it but decided not to.

but you make a great point goldfish ......this is what I am talking about.

well..i dunno about respect for me but i respect most all people in here inspite of some egos, i dont think text on screen translates to well sometimes then feelings get hurt or whatever. i think everyone has something to offer the club, just gotta know the time and place... i offer where i can, if i catch the post fast enough. but i looked at all the other sites and this one seems to have the best atmosphere for me :)

my troll comment for the day... or is that gnome comment... :)

I regret posting this, I should have taken the high road like you did, it's not that big of a deal. Had a long day.

I don't really know what garners respect...I mean, I cannot put into words. But I know what I do NOT respect. "Pull that slant OUT...", "Pull that 318 out and put a 360 in it...." Those two statements really piss me off.

i dont know SS! when you get your slant together you'll see how slow these slants are! lol
:violent2:

I've always paid my way and have never taken anything for granted. Though I've only been here a short time and some have shown animosity towards me for my replies at times, nothing really bothers me as I'm hard as nails and have always gained respect from those who count.

I like this site as well as the many sites which cater to what it is I'm part of through the toys I 've got to know

famous, regular and respected are just words I used from the top of my head.....others may refer to them differently but the general point I was trying to make as in there being different levels of acceptance I think got across to most of you.

I agree that most times people are given the answers they deserve ,like you said....the guy who wants to take on an entire resto but only knows very little...may be talked to in a somewhat student teacher type of way to give them a reality check that its not a breeze job to do and so on.

HOWEVER ....I have seen from time to time (some of these people have been banned but some are still here) like to criticize , be rude and obnoxious.

like has been mentioned before when someone wants to build a slant 6 and someone pipes up saying its junk and to put a 360 in .....theres no need for that.

or when an older person talks of knowing more than a younger person or when a younger person claims of doing a job in half the time of an older person.

or when someone is selling a vehicle and someone bash's the persons add or offers up the same thing for sale in that same thread and basically ruins that persons sale.

lots of variations of good and bad things some folks on here have done in the passed.

all in all, fabo rocks.....I just got bored and figured I would post up my thoughts and made this thread but I didnt think so many people were going to have in depth insight on the subject......good to see everyone's thoughts on it.

I agree this is a great site and I am happy to be a member.......I think there are jerks everywhere....and some decent people have JERKY days kinda like a bad hair day, threads do get hijacked and some folks think their parts are made of gold plated platinum.....while others think they deserve them for cheep.....
There are members that have a kinda certain respect ....but like I was sayin they are on here all the time....they interact with quite a few folks and most of the time they offer good advice...... that is what brings them a certain un written respect...but that is true ANYWHERE not just on FABO..... your word and the keeping thereof is really all you have to be "graded" by..... you walk like you talk ....your grades go up, you needlessly flame someone or sell a $20 part for $60 and take 3 months to ship it, your grades GO DOWN.... I got what you were saying I just don't think it is THAT unusual compared to anything else.....moods change, people are different when they drink, people act different when things go shitty at work or they have financial problems....there is really no tellin what makes people do what they do. Those that have that unwritten respect that you speak of have lost it from time to time...but they go back to the basics and it comes back pretty quickly

AS far as the BASHING goes.....it got pretty bad...so bad in fact that Joey published a sticky asking nicely for folks to STOP...... I guess some just feel their view / opinion is worth more or is more correct and if you don't agree or have evidence to the contrary....the bashing begins...... the key to all of this IMHO is .....for example if you don't like the **** that gets flung in the politics forum....YOU have the choice to stay out of there so you arent tempted to begin **** flinging!! OLD saying if ya dont like the heat in the kitchen.... stay out of the kitchen!

regarding all the replies: you asked some fair questions about the site.....and people responded with what they knew or believed about the site to try and answer you best they could..... THAT is the SECRET SAUCE that makes the site tick and gives people their credibility...... the fact that so many are willing to respond to your casual curiosity.....pretty much every one of those replies is an attempt to lend you a hand with understanding what FABO is made of.......that is the ROOT it all comes forth from there......

NO offense to our young guns, but people that have been on earth longer and have experienced more........ just by being here longer usually are more informed....not smarter necessarily and not always. but they do tend to have a broader experience base from which to draw conclusions or forecast likelyhoods....thats is no insult that is simply the result of being around longer...... example: my nephew is a computer wizzard....there isn't much he cannot do, crackin code, programming phones etc etc etc..... BUT when it came to a little hardware glitch....and he didnt have an ICON that fixed it or a program that fixed it.....he had to come to me and ask how to fix his hardware or get his network back up......stuff that I have seen and fixed 100 times that he had no idea how to do.....thats not insulting...THATS PASSIN IT ON!!! and making someone think it through is not MEAN it is the right way to learn things....that way next time it happens and I am long dead, HE will be able to think it thru and bail himself out!
This was actually a very informative thread and a pretty good question

yup , you make alot of great points......and your right when you say that each individual person here is what makes fabo tick.

we for sure stand out from the run of the mill site out there now a days.

and yes I agree with you to a certain extent that some older folks might know a thing or two more than some of the younger ones but at the same time....alot of that depends on certain things.

for example.....lets say an 25 year old guy has been in the hobby of working on cars since he was 15.......and then lets say a 50 year old guy has been in the hobby since he was 45.

odds are that the 25 year old has packed in a bit more knowledge than that of the 50 year old.....but lets say this 50 year old is hard headed and trys to play the "older and wiser card" and says he knows more than the "punk kid" .........just saying, I have seen it happen time and time again.

or a guy that has been working on cars for 20+ years that is asked a technical question and gives the right answer....gets told he is wrong by a kid fresh out of automotive school that thinks he knows what he is talking about because he read it in a book.......knowledge is power...yes ......but experience is hands on.

but.....end result is....we are all here for the same reason and for the same passion and regardless of who knows more and who knows less, I think everyone could learn a thing or two from one another because NOONE no matter how hands on or how book smart knows EVERYTHING.

even with as much as I do know....if I am unsure of something, I always ask because I know someone will have an answer for me and then Ill store it away in the ole memory bank for future use lol

I just try to treat people how I want to be treated. Some get it and others don't. As long as your not a lying thief you get my respect. If you are.....by by.

i feel i,ve earned repect here.my post count has gone through the roof lately, with new and old members asking questions and for pics of how i,ve done my builds.engine builds, minitubs, rear narrowing, fenderwells, roll cage, etc, etc.having built an early-a,i get asked alot of questions,as did i when i first started my early-a project.i like...pay it forward..and will help anyone to the best of my knowledge.i wouldn,t change it for anything.since joining fabo i,ve met and made many good people and friends.i respect many members here for not just their knowledge of mopars, but also they,re friendlyness to help with everyday life issues.fabo is a whole lot more than just about cars.:thumbrig:
x2

I'm just looking to "fit" in,learn what I can learn and if I make some friends at the same time, well that's a bonus.

Interesting thread. I know I'm kind of a newbee here but have been into Mopars since the early 70s. This is great site but I find it kind of puzzling why some people seem to want to classify members for some reason or another. Personally, I don't think post count means diddly - I've seen people on other forums make 30 or more posts a day and basically provide nothing at all useful except to increase their post count. Granted, a lot of people here with high post counts are probably a wealth of knowledge and extremely helpful when the need arises so I'm not trying to offend anybody - it just seems kinda silly to me. :toothy9: I feel respect is earned more by content than by how much a person can type on as many threads as they can find. Sometimes the person that says the least has a lot more respectability in my book than the guy that says the most.

I've owned several A, B, C, E, and F body cars along with a few Dodge trucks, vans, and Jeeps over the years along with one Omni 024  (I don't even know what "body" those are :pale:). I'm not an expert on anything but help out people when I can and am here mainly to learn what I can and have a good time. :glasses8:

I'm over a hundred posts now, though - how many do ya need ta be respectable around here - I'll see what I can do about it.

I hoped that being a regular on this site, would not so much as garner me respect, but allow me to absorb the knowledge that makes this place great. I have been on many sites and still check in on them from time to time. FABO is so much more than just a place for a bunch of car guys, it is a family, I can ask any question and know I am going to not only get advice, but get help it is possible. I learned that if you know nothing you can learn everything. Thanks for a great place to call home....

you get what you give!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! i have great respect for alot of members here,we all love mopars!remember there is no stupid question, just stupid answers....

I enjoy trying to help out other members with problems they have, but most of the time I need more help than I give.

I regret posting this, I should have taken the high road like you did, it's not that big of a deal. Had a long day.
This thread is about respect and you have earned it. Glad to see you posted your opinion. You cant always hold everything in. Its not healthy. Thats just the barracuda side of pisces not the angelfish side coming out.lol

I hope I am a respected member here. Even though I may be opinionated at times I respect you all and your opinions. I appreciate all the knowledge here and the willingness to share that knowledge. toolman

I'm also highly opinionated, but I usually save that side of things for the political forum, so I suppose the answer to the original question is, probably not.
