aftermarket MPFI conversion kits any good?

ive been lookin around recently at purchasing (way down the road) one of those "bolt on efi" systems for my 360 thats goin to eventually b put in my 70 dart. they even have different systems, TBI (throttle body injection), MPFI(multi-port fuel injection), TPI(tune port injection) and so on. thot itd be a cool addtion since it would increase reliability, performance an economy. they run anywhere from $1500-5k dependant on what system type, brand, motor, ect you go with

has anyone here used any kind of aftermarket efi on there old mopar? are any of em worth the money or should i not bother? i just like the idea of turn the key n go, no warm up no carb tuning. i do understand that you tune the ECU they send but thats not something u gotta constantly do.

what are your guys' thoughts? personally, i think it is a killer idea! all the great technology of modern equipment under the guise of classic mopar style!
 
I've heard the FAST efi is a really good one. I believe they have the equipment to do MPI, you just need an MPI intake.
 
dont bother with TBI, its like a carb with injectors in it... still have fuel puddling and all the other stuff...

if you gonna spend to the $$ go with a Sequential (fires the injector when the cyl needs fuel) vs. batch fire where it fires all injectors on one bank, then the other...

also make sure what ever you by has a closed loop system, this allows the system to learn and adjust on the go with out having to mess with it...
 
thanks for the info. this is definatly somethin i wanna do down the road and its not too terribly expensive, considering what your result is (assuming everything works as you intend)

btw joe, that link reads its for chevy n fords...shouldnt that matter?
 
does anyone know about these MPFI kits for /6's by chance? a buddy of mine wants to keep his 225 in his 75 dart sport an likes the idea of EFI for it

you'd have to do tap the intake for fuel injectors and then it should work just the same.

For something like that, your buddy might wanna look into a megasquirt setup:

JMO, but on a low performance slant 6, a simple TBI setup using a GM TBI and megasquirt would be a great option.

a friend is putting it on his 528 mopar so they do make a kit for that. not sure if he has the one that controls spark also though.
 
there are some online articles of guys that have done junkyard efi setups for slants. i couldnt see spending big cash on any aftermarket stuff for a slant. i di think mpfi is the best setup but even a tbi setup can give you major improvements over a carb.

i should have been more clear, i cant see spending thousands on an efi setup for a slant when you can build something from junkyard stuff that will work. it isnt so easy to build a working efi setup for a big block form junkyard parts. my buddy had a slant with a b&m blower on it. it ran ok, but for the work he put into it and the money spent, he would have been a hell of a lot faster with any v8 with the same work. but this isnt one of those debates. i tried living with a slant myself, 2 brl setup big cistom exhaust, hogged out the exhaust manifold, recurved the distributor and 3.73s. i did think about doigj a junkyard efi, but for the work involved i didnt think it was worth it for what i wanted to do. it just didnt do it for me. hey i know a guy that stops by my house every now and then he isnt capable o fdoing a lot of his own work, but he had a super six and didnt think it was worth the effort. he sold it. he then had a dual exhaust mad eup. now he has another super six setup and came by asking if it is worth it. of coarse, you have it why not but you need a big head pipe to go with your dual exhaust. he says he has to do a manifold gasket anyway. and decides its really not worth installing the 2 brl on his slant. this guy wanted to completely redo his 9" front drums, i offereed him a complete set of finned 10" front drums for free, he talked to his buddy and he tells him its not worth the change... instead they replaced drums and all on his 9" setup.
 
im actually finishing up an EZ-EFI install in a 68 hemi roadrunner.

as far as opinions on the kit:

its a really well made kit. great for a universal part, really. bery little thats not included, and very easy install. hardest part is the fuel system plumbing. dont like the way the harness is laid out, but then again, its a matter of personal preference on that kind of thing.

i also dont like that im locked out of all the fine tuning of the maps. i prefer to tinker, not just take what i get. ( i taught myself to tune with free software on TBI GM products).

with that being said, it depends on what kind of power youre putting under your efi, your willingness to tinker and fiddle, and your budget.

for a stock or mild 318/360, id go with a GM TBI system with a 454 TBI setup, using a stock GM ECM, and tune it for the combo. for something more radical, and less tuning intensive, a professional products powerjection (infinately tunable, and what ill be picking up here soon) or an EZ EFI (tunes itself very well.)

i thought you could fine tune the ez efi after it was up and running?
 
not that much. you can tweak the target A/F ratio, and fool the computer with jockying the TPS setup, but thats about it. also, idle is settabe, as well as the fan operating temps. but with the actual fuel maps, what the computer decides is what you get.

it also doesnt have any ignition control features.
 
I'm happy with my dual quad EZ EFI -

I'm a carb guy so the settings I can adjust are fine with me and what I would adjust on a carb -

AF for idle
AF for cruise
AF for WOT

acc pump shot ( they have a fancy name for it)

fan relay at a certian temp
ac fast idle

idle

etc

the fuel "maps" are not adjustable, since it learns what you need. I dont want to have a laptop to adjust my car at this point

the best part for me? If i make any changes, heads, headers, etc - I just reset the computer and it re-learns what I need... thats the " EZ" part.
