Turning a 73 Dart into a 72

-
So I went to prime my oiling system and make sure I had oil to the rockers. As I'm doing this I can hear the air being bled out of the lifter gallery oiling passages but it gets progressively louder when I look down at My feet and see this ...

Seems the piece that the oil filter seats on is warped and did not seal to the block. So since I had a right angle oil filter adapter on the shelf I threw that on and problem solved.Glad I discovered this prior to firing the motor up !

So My new driveshaft arrived today, fit perfect! I was very careful taking measurements..

Cool got a freebie today.a friend of mine just got tires on her moms car went to costco and got a buy three get the fourth free deal. One of the tires had been replaced recently so I asked her to have them put that one in the trunk. It's an almost brand new 225 65 15 .cost Me $15 to have it mounted and balanced. So including the cost of the wheel I've got a spare for $35.00!

Thanks for the comments guys, It's been a long time coming and with everything going on in My life right now it's hard to find the time to address all the little odds and ends that need finishing.Hopefully I'll have a full day tomorrow to work on 'Er.My Nephew is taking film/video classes so some time in the future I should have a HD burnout Vid!

Nice dart !

Well after struggling to get this thing running right-rough idle, stumble.I decided to tear into it once again.found the lifter for the #7 exhaust was tore-up.Strange as all the others look fine with a nice swirl pattern.Well I figure the whole block is probably full of metal shavings. So it's definetly coming out.I wasn't sure what to do next but I was able to find a low mileage rebuilt 360.I'm going to pick it up tomorrow morning.I will post pics.I'm hoping this mildly built motor will salvage My project.

Nobody seems to read this thread but I'll keep updating it anyhow .Got the engine running and it sounds great! A bit scary at first seeing as it sat for a long-long time. Those lifters were dry and rattled for a few moments before it warmed up.On subsequent fire-ups it just seems to run better and better! So I have all the accesories installed. Also applied the sound deadener/heat- shield and put the carpet and seats back in permanently.Just have to fix a leaky valve cover gasket get an alignment and she's Road Ready!

Thanks, this project has really tested me.If this engine didn't work out I was ready to throw in the towel as they say.But I have too much invested to just walk away from it.

I have to agree it has come along way. Sorry I missed this thread earlier. WHat seats do you have and where did you get them?

I have been watching your thread and reading it and commend you on a great job. Well done! Post more pics please.

Looking Goood !

Be sure to add some ZDDP to you oil to prevent a repeat of the lifter failure. It should be added at every oil change if your running non roller lifters.

Where do you find the ZZDDP at? I have been looking for it and can't find it here.

Thanks,OTR! I got the seats at the local Kragen (now O'reilly's) .Seems like every auto store has some version of these for sale. They were sold under the name scorpion seats.Usually about $175 a piece.I had a coupon so I lucked out .Got the set for less than $200.They look a bit too wide at the shoulders for an a-body mopar but they fit My budget.

There are some additives being made, but the brands escape me at the moment. When I had the engine in the race car done a couple of years back, the builder (well respected in this area) told me to use about a 1/2 quart of break-in oil with the regular oil if you cannot find some that has the ZDDP in it already. Soem brands still do and it seems that there is more being marketed. It is also a good idea to use weaker springs (or just the outers) during engine break-in to relieve some of the seat pressure.
