Coming along a little bit at a time. The biggest rad I could fit, hi vol water pump, flexalite fan. AND electric fan with thermostat. Haven't mounted the tranny cooler yet. It's going to be a big one bcause the stall will be around 3000. I'll run the flexalite and set the elec. thermostat when it gets hot in traffic the elec fan will kick on. I know this might be overkill but the last problem I want is a cooling problem. Havent figured the throttle linkage yet, no kickdown because I have installed a reverse valve body.

That is a really good looking setup! Might I suggest, offsetting the electric fan as close to the rad coolant in, on the the driver side. It might help because if you are in traffic, the mechanicle fan is pulling from the same area the electric is pushing. You would get more radiator coverage, and being closer to the input might help with busting the initial heat out of the rad.

Thanks for the tips. That is what I will do..

Sure thing! here is my cooling setup, I have batteld the cooling monster for a long time and think I finally have it whooped.

Is that a truck water pump? How did you get around not running a by pass hose? It looks like you spent a lot of time and effort getting your cooling system right. Did you make the shroud or buy it ? I still have to figure the tranny cooler location, I really like what you have done.

I had soooo many cooling issues; I tried everything conceivable to combat it. A buddy suggested trying the bypass block, and it didn’t hurt, so I ran it. All the bypass does is pushes water under the thermostat to aid in its opening. The only problem you would run into in this situation is air pockets under the stat, but I drilled two very small holes in the thermostat to help bleed off any trapped air. The pump is from a 65 fury 318, it is a cast pump from AutoZone. I ran it because it is shorter than your pump, and if you see how close my fans are to the water pump pulley, then that explains it. The shroud and radiator were purchased from a local shop here in Tulsa, but it is a do it yourself type shroud. I had to cut the locations out for the fans, and it worked out well. The fans hang off either side by about two inches, so I had to make an air dam type thingie jigger so they would only suck air through the rad. I called the speed shop I got the rad and shroud from; he said if you give him the dimensions of your rad, they can order you a shroud for a mech. Fan, or an electric setup like mine. They are produced by Northern Radiator, i looked online for a website, but couldnt find one. 918-836-9009, is the number for SHOW N GO, talk to Allen and he will fix you up.

Beautiful engine bays.

It appears that dustoff440 is using Magnum heads on his 340, with the high-dollar multi-use intake. With the later aluminum small-block water pump it appears no room for a thermostatic fan. Same issue in my 65 Dart, so used Summit's nylon fan. Ditto for stroker_valiant with the early cast-iron water pump. I couldn't use it because of the radiator I bought.

I wondered if my engine was too far forward, but since others have the same fit issues, apparently not. I understand that many later A's (~1972+) with alum w.p. do use thermostatic fans. Are their engine bays longer or the radiators thinner?

Even with the heads and timing cover dustoff is running, if need be, a pump just like mine can be used. But as far as a fan clutch type assembly, absolutely no way I can run one, there’s just not enough room. When I did have a mechanical fan on my car as I was working through every option, I had to run it direct drive. I’m not sure if the later models have more room, but I would say they obviously do after seeing so many of them with fan clutch / thermostatic fan setups.

But dustoff, I’m sure you will be just fine in your quest of keeping the car cool. I would rather run the mechanical fan, simply because of the reliability factor.

Actually the engine is a 360 magnum from a 93 Dakota R/T. The only non stock pieces are the camshaft, intake, and MP distributor. The pulley set up is from a 73 318 Satellite w/o air. I haven't measured but I am thinking that I can just barely fit a clutch fan set up. For now I'm going to run both the flexalite and the electric and try it without a shroud. At the very first sign that it's running hot I will either buy or fab a shroud.

Thats awesome, I wish I would have went with something a little more mild like yours, big hot motors are hard to keep cool!

Old post, i know....but..

stroker valiant, what size is your radiator? i am in need of an electric fan setup and your system has me interested. I am limited to only using my 20 inch core width radiator. cannot change it out to the bigger 26" units that everyone uses. I have a 2nd gen A-body. (68 cuda) with a small block, with '70 & later aluminum water pump.

also, what is the total thickness of your electric fan/shroud setup?
