here it is before during and after. lots of stripping and sanding. lol it was kind of a lotta work lol. but i think it came out good enough. now i just gotta stab in the engine, but i have to make my wiper and heater motors look good first. lol then i gotta build my brake lines, and then electrical...then maybe ill be ready for my 318 :)

thanks guys, i stripped it with jasco premium paint and epoxy remover...then used a wire wheel on an air angle grinder, also used those hamburger wheels...then i primed it with OMNI brand paint, (about $30 a quart on average for their stuff) , then used some RAGE GOLD body filler on some small divets and dimples then used high build primer over the body filler, then primed it again, wet sanded, then finally painted 3 coats of OMNI single stage brilliant silver paint.....not the best job, and was my first, but came out nicely. im happy with it, sure better than it was!

Wow, Stripping it and repainting is enough work by itself, but you filled it, shot some high build and wet sanded before painting!!!! Brutha, you went waaayyy beyond above and beyond =D>=D>=D>=D>=D> It came out looking great, nice job! L8r

Looks awesome James! Good work. Quick question...I have seen people tape off where you did, on the cowl by the lip...why do people tape off there?? Is it so there isnt a paint "seam" on the top of the cowl?

Looks good. The sad part is you'll need to scratch about half dozen spots back to bare metal for chassis grounds. I call it the devil in the details.

318? ISn't the fish getting the stroker it deserves? Looks good. You should see my "before", way worse than yours as it is origonal paint.

thanks guys for the comments!! im glad i did it because i couldn't put a brand new shiny engine into a dirty greasy rusty bay. lol

yea, thats it, its an easy place to mask off to, so whenever and whoever does the body work they can mask from that point on down...

ahhh geeeze!! no, really??? i forgot about that! haha, but it'll be fine, ill worry about that when I get to it...lol

now, off to building my brake lines! ill update this thread periodically when i get new stuff done :)

i wish, but the stroker is for my 70 dart build, RMS front end, dana 60 rear with RMS 4-link. but that one has been on hold for a little while, i gotta get this cuda back on the road first!

Nice work James:tongue9:,now time to get the "teen" back in there for cruisin!

lol thanks scott! ya kno, a "teen" aint JUST for cruisin ya know!!! :D:D:D

Nice work James! Are you bending your own brake lines, or buying them already done?

Love the color, is that AA1?

4spdragtop,
In addition to the owner's response to your question......... if you use different paint types in some areas of the car (I am going to use single stage in the engine compartment) you will not get an exact color match. Masking along a natural break line like the cowl seam weld will make the subtle color difference essentially unnoticeable. Even if you are using the same paint type, it allows you the flexibility of completing your project in sections and still have it end up looking like it was all done at once because the seams are hidden. thank you! i am going to TRY and bend my own brake lines first and see how that goes. i can only find 5 foot lengths of brake line, so the one that goes on the back side of the engine compartment to the passenger side is going to have a junction in there somewhere, not the preferred way to do it, but i cant find any lengths longer than 5 feet at the local napa, kragen, or car quest, any idea n where i can get a longer length besides ordering it online and waiting???...i do have a hydraulic flaring tool that was about 350 bucks from mastercool and it makes the perfect flares....

Have you asked CarQuest or Napa to see if they have longer lines at the warehouse? Back when I was a CarQuest warehouse salesman, I know we had longer ones in the warehouse, but they were slow movers. So they may not carry them anymore.
