My 440 4 Speed Duster. New Holly 800DB. I Will Set It At 800 RPM's Then Take It For A Drive, First Stop Idle Then stalls. Bring It Back Home Get It Back Up Too 800 Rpm Then First Stop Up To 1800RPM, Can Not Get It To Settle Down, Nothing Is Getting Stuck And I Have Greased All Levers. Could This Be Jetting Or Vacume Leak, When It Is At 1800 It Somtimes Comes Back To 800 But It Takes 25-35 Seconds To Come Down. Where Do I Start.
 
check your advance springs inside distributer. sounds like too loose of a curve. check out w/timing light first. good luck Al
 
I had a vacuum leak that made my truck roll at idle. It was simply a loose carb body bolt. Not sure if a loose shaft could leak, and make it roll also?

That badass Duster shouldn't be idling anyway:yawinkle:

(this is one of the toughest sounding street cars around)
 
Sounds like a vacuum leak to me. things to check, distributor vac advance connect to carb "ported Vac", PV valve working properly, double check carb primary and "Most Important" secondary throttle plates are closing. If you have a points distributor check the gapping, twist the rotor to see if it returns freely, (points or electronic).

I'd disconnect all the vacuum lines, cap off the ports and see if the problem went away.
If no change a judicious use of propane or starting fluid around the carb and manifold will help find a leak. rwh
 
Yep,check all vacuum lines,snug bolts on carb and intake.don,t know how old or size of any rubber line being used from gas tank,but they swell too.

Had To Get My Old Reliable Book Out For This Engine Build, Have To Have Larger Springs And Some Welding Done Inside., Just Happen To Of Had One All Rebuilt, Ploped It In Set Timming At All In At 33Deg At 3000RPM, Got It To Settle Down To 1100 And Know It Sounds Like A Bad ***, Look Out Scott Cause I Am Coming For The Little Dart. LOL. See You Guys Soon. MOPARFEST HER I COME.

Garage Is Up And Exterior Finished. Just Have To Put The Lift Together On Tuesday And The We Can Wire It. Dougs Car Is Not Even Painted Yet. Should Be This Week But To Late Doug Is Headed To The East Coast For Two weeks, I Am Headed To The French River For 10 Days Then Come Back On The Wednesday Then Moparfest On The Friday, He Will Not Be Coming, So I Am Going To Bring The Little Woman This Time. No I Won't Be Sharing. I'll Get Some Pics Up Soon.
