What is your opinion on these for a street Demon compared to a 340 or a 5.7 swap? The Demon is a factory 318 car.
... :happy1:

I was looking try to find a pric and the closest I found was a 360/390hp crate motor. If it is the same price as the 380hp version then you could build an equal or better for cheaper. How much is the 380hp version?

If your talking about the Mopar Performance crate engine my thoughts are.

Nice little engines you can find them sometimes never ran for about half the new price from private party sales. Thing I like is all the parts including the block is new. I would try and find the newer magnum version with the hydralic roller cam.

Here is the magnum version I'm putting in a 65 Valiant. I also had an older LA version that I had in a 68 dart that ran really good. Both good motors and bought for about $2500 with addition accessories like carbs included in the deals.

Hey folks!
I`m searching for trim clips for my 65 barracuda. They are for the trim mounted from front to rear wheel under the doors.. I`d need all 18 of them.. Maybe anyone got some at home? Or knows a shop where I can get them?
Thanks in advance! :glasses7:

Hey! I`m trying to get the trim clips I lost during my restoration! I already asked several dealers but no one could help me.. So now I`m asking here and maybe someone got them layin round somewhere?
I`m searching for the clips for the moulding from front- to the rear wheel under the doors and I need all 18 of them! :sad4: But I`d be already glad if someone could sell me few, or maybe knows a dealer who can help me?
Bye, Marc

Stay away from Blueprint! I have researched them for about 1 year. Nothing good on Mopars found there. Mopar does not make the 380 Hp version anymore, but I did find one in a barn, new and untouched.
Manufact. date of 2004 from Canada according to the sticker.

I must say, this is a kick *** motor. A 750 Holley, TTi's and 3600 stall= Screaming Duster.

Sometimes found on racing junk or look for a used one in a boneyard, but I do not know the best years to look for. Overall, a killer motor in my opinon. Plus, I have a 100 shot of NOS. I dont plan on using it until the motor is broken in. Total 480 Hp?
Funny, you do not see much said about those engines hear though.

i bought mine new in 2003 was made in canada by cummins for chrysler at that time. i have never had one issue with this motor. with a 750 holley and tti's with a 4 speed and 4;10 8 3/4 the car is alot of fun to drive. and at that time i used a friends name from out of state to buy it from the dealer so i didn't end up paying tax but final price was $3450.00. should have bought two

i got mine around the same time for the same price. bought it from west oaks chry/plymouth in Cal. so i didn't have to pay for cross country shipping. total was $4100 to my door in hawaii.
I'm very happy with it, not a single problem.

This can be a tuff question because you can build an engine yourself cheaper.
With that said, if you never built an engine, can not build an engine due to lack of help, exper., tools or whatever the case may be, the create engine is a good deal.

The HEMI engine is a better power plant. But it can be a pain if your new to swaps, adding parts that you may have never touched before like adding, an ignition, computer, fuel pump and fuel line adpted to the OE tank and/or replacement fuel tank. Headers are expensive. But anything decent and well made for a "LA" is comparable in price. The more expensive headers for a "LA" like tti's are pricey but ohhh sooo worth it.

The create engine will drop right in with just a correct engine mount for the drivers side at most. You can use the 318 mount with some washers since it is wider than the 340/360 mount.

These 360/380 create engines were often dyno'd by the mag's with very nice results. When the MP instructions were followed, (use of a 750 carb, 1-3/4 header pipe,) these engines allways dyno'd north of 400 HP.

A few members here that have used this engine in there cars have done so in full trim stock cars to lightened race only cars with et's from mid 12's in full street cars to high 11's in lightened race cars. With the bracket cars making use of a few tricks that street guys normaly do not employ. Like roller rockers, electric fans and mini Alternators, fiber glass panels, high stall converters and rear gear ratios, etc......

Those Crate motors were great, just like Mopar do something good inexpensive then
do away with it.

This happens because of 2 reasons.

1. No one is purchasing them.
2. MP parts makes use of what is being produced for stock vehicles. In the future, the "LA"/Magnum engines will be totaly phased out and only the HEMI will be pushed. The only thing that will save the "LA"/Magnum engines from totaly going away is customer demand. If there still used in raceing/street performance cars, they (MP) will continue to make them.

For a long while, big block parts were getting harder to find through MP. I'm just glad they found the 440 tooling and made new blocks and such. The revival of the big block from MoPar guys on the streets brought it back. Otherwise, the tooling would have remained in a box, gone forever.

Notice how the small block section is having a lack of heads available for purchase?

That engine is a little bit more money due to the aluminum heads. Current prices are a unknown to me.
Stay cool there buddy, drink lots-o-water.

Marc87, how's headers are those?

Rumble: You make very good points, but pushing the hemi as the only remaining crate motor? Most laypersons can not AFFORD and put a hemi in everything they own especially the non big block A body crowd. If the small block era is to be eliminated, there will be serious issues.
It would make more sense to get a chevy where crate motor selection is vast in HP variety and more affordable. Putting a hemi in an A body is impressive, but is it a practical high dollar investment for the "bragging rights" and modifications needed to retrofi and hassle.

Almost any magazine boast the readily available and plentiful small blocks in junkyards or otherwise.

I found this article yesterday online on making a 300 Hp magnum into a 400hp + motor by upgrading the heads, valvetain, cam and intake.

Mopar Perf. discontinued them because they stopped producing the heads and blocks needed to make them.

The crate motor has good bang for the buck with less conversion hassles than other choices. The 340 is also a great engine......if you can find one reasonable and then have it rebuilt but it will probably cost more than the 360 for the same power.

Exactly. Did I forget to mention that? Being that MP gets there parts from the "Stock bin"...... minus a few other parts.....

1. This is a probabl course IMO. HEMI only could happen. Due to the reason above that Adam stated.

2. Yea that write up has been around a long time. MoPar Muscle was the first to put it out, then Hot Rod, the sister mag got it. Same words, same etc......

MoPar Muscle has some preeety cool 360 build up's that aren'treally over the top expensive or complex. Basic parts and GO!

Guys, I need some help here? I have a brand new 380HP 360 that has been sitting since about 97 and I need to replace the valve springs. Dodge wants $480 for a set and I need to know what rate of springs and also the OD & ID if the factory springs they used. I can buy aftermarket springs for about 1/2 of what Dodge wants. Does anybody know what these measurements are??????
Thanks in advance guys

Jim

I would just call someone like Hughes Engines, Comp Cams or one of our own members that build motors and have them spec a set for you. They will probably set you up with some nice Beehive springs and retainers

old thread revival, this IS a great motor :D been running strong for over two years now.

My bothers 360/380 crate lasted about 2K miles and then lost oil pressure.Glad you had better luck than he did.

I've had a couple and heard stories about them. Both of mine one a LA the other a Magnum were both great little engines.

I had one in my volare rr when i sold it .... nothing to brag about as far as TQ is concerned ....it also was redone for a bottom end concern

I called Mancini Racing today about the valve springs. They gotum BUT they are back ordered, just my luck. Good thing is we aren't ready for them till about mid summer or a bit later. Price was $169, a hell of a lot cheaper than what Dodge {$480}wanted. Can't wait to get this engine in my Scamp and have fun fun fun fun. :)
