I just completed the conversion on my 65 Valiant using the adapters from Scarebird Classic Brakes and wanted to share my experience with the FABO community. I've written a complete document with some step by steps and photos as I felt the documentation provided by Scarebird was too weak in detail. Especially for an amateur such as myself. Overall I'm very satisfied with the conversion. Price is good, braking ability after the install is very very good.

I intended on posting my complete 9 page doc on the forums but it's just too heavy to meet the attachments criteria. If anybody can file share it for me somewhere and let me link it back to this posting that would be great. Or if interested in the doc send me a PM with your email and I can email it to you.

Right on! I don't see too many people around here going the Scarebird route, even though they are all over Summit and Ebay.

I run my own web server. It's not on the fastest connection, but I can host it for you. Feel free to e-mail it to me, hemi@puresimplicity.net and I'll reply to you with a link you can post.

The file is a .pdf, composed in Open Office and then coverted. It's a monster as it stands at about 7MB. I'm going to try and compress it down to be hostable friendly.

Thanks jtolbert. I'll take you up on the offer. Just don't want to kill your bandwidth with this pig. Let me see if I can shrink it down first.

your not kidding. i even have a file of their directions they sent me and damn not very detailed..

i have a few questions for ya because i was thinking about putting that on jamies car.

do you buy longer lugs for the set up? if so you have a part number?

what did it cost you to have the rotors re-drilled?

do you have a beak down on what the parts cost you? i came up with around $150. ( after buying the actual plate from scarebird)

are those stock steel wheels? if so how much grinding on the calibers did it take to get them to fit?

looks like a pretty straight forward install. is it? and hows it stop now?

thank you jtolbert for hosting the doc.

abodyjoe- Parts list and prices are all documented in the above doc. My total cost was around $500. That cost includes tools and a few items you may not need.
New/longer wheel studs are required. I recommend measuring the old ones before buying the new ones. Everything is in the doc. I welcome all feedback and questions and hope the doc though not 100% complete helps out others doing or considering this kit.

Thanks

nice, saved this to my computer..:)

pretty straight forward.. wonder if the backspace on my wide small bolt wheels is the same as the narrower small bolt steel wheels.

so you hardly had to grind to get the calibers to fit in side the wheel?

To my surprise one wheel fit perfect, no grinding required. The other side needed very little. Contact between the caliper and the steelie was toward the inside of the wheel not at the top of the rim as I expected. There was a little bit of a protrusion on the outside of the caliper that can be filed off pretty easy.

saved, reference later. Lawrence
also thanks for taking the time to publish!!

THANKS! I was wondering what a "knurl swedge cutter" was, and now I at least know what it does!
