Trailers are worthless

-
I'm sticking with the trailor. I get hit up with people wanting to borrow it way too much as it is. I could just imagine what a truck would be like.

At one time we had class D licences [the old chauffer licences] i suppose they have done away with them i just looked at my DL that i renewed not too long ago and sure enough it is a class E, MY BAD i only stated that due to when i purchased my first 1 ton dodge in 95 i had to get that type of licence.

I am buying a D300 truck with a 383 in it currently. I plan to put a 12Valve cummins in it with a 5 speed and building a ramp on. Trailers are not the way to go. Old school ramp trucks are!

Jeff

I have a line on a tilt cab Dodge with a big block Lord willing it will be similar to the blue one above just ramp bed not rollback

Yeah I have to agree that the old COE Dodge truck/A100 van looking thing are pretty awesome. If the one you have a line on is similar to the one above then I would say buy it because from what I know they are very rare and very desirable nowadays. Plus I think if you added a Cummins then it would be the ultimate tow rig.

i think most of them came with 361(?) industrial motor.
they came in L600 and L700 models.

I have hauled many Mopars on a Medium Duty early '70's chevy Dump truck converted with the sides removed all but the head board, with 8 foot aluminum ramps. It had a 427 and a two speed rear. you tilt the bed to 45deg hook up the ramps and winch it up. not a bad hauler. David

, sorry for the long, boring post . :)

I didn't find this boring, I found it to be informative of just how effed up many state laws are. There needs to be some changes made by states in regard to commercial, CDL, RV etc use.

I don't know how any state can claim that a little bit of trophy money at a car show somehow make someone a businessman.

I've heard lots of horror stories from some of the guys who drive interstate. Pretty obvious some states are interested in keeping it as complicated as possible so they have an excuse to fine "somebody."

I have a 2 trailers I use.
One is my little car trailer..

The other one is just a bit bigger.
I delivered some 'Christmas' presents to Charleston, W.V on Christmas Eve.

I came back and picked some more cars for Dallas.

Nice to combine vacation pay with driver pay.

Trailers are great. Cheap to buy, cheap to license. Very low maintainance.
A lot easier to manuver than a ramp truck.

very similar the one im lookin at has a steel dove tail bed right now just gotta seal the deal is all now

Those are some cool rigs. Wish I had a bigger trailer, but this one works for me.

Valiant Rebel not a U-Haul trailer a U-Haul car hauler Ford pick up cab and ramps on the back that go over the cab.

I love my enclosed trailer. It keeps my car cozy when not in use and it keeps me out of the sun when the car is out of it. Cabinets, work bench, generator, air compressor, it's all good. I've even slept in it a couple times. lol

had an enclosed before to much trouble to load big stuff, lil red express and ramchargers aint gonna go there. i loved the convenience of it but one repaint thanks to the guide wires on the door and NO MORE for me thanks

I wanted to get an enclosed trailer but I thought the extra weight was a bit much for the old F150. This one pulls pretty well. One day I may get rid of the F150 and get a heavier truck and then I'll go for a nice enclosed rig.

Always wanted to make one out of an old hearse. I had an 83 but it was to nice to chop won a few car shows with it then economy forced me to sell. I just think a hearse would look awesome as a hauler and they already have upgraded frames

Just out of curiosity, what happened that drove you from trailers? I picked up a 40' Alpha Gold 5th wheel trailer thinking I might be able to later on convert it into an enclosed car hauler/travel trailer. I love the idea of loading up my car into my home and trotting off to a car show, or race event, what have you. Fortunately ( unfortunately ) our friend is getting a divorce, and now paying for my Alpha. Gotta get a nice shop built ( oh, darn! ) so I have a place to do the conversion. It will probably be several years before I get a chance to build this, as well as my cars, but, it's good to have goals, right?

My opinion on some of the cons would be, another vehicle to do upkeep on. I bought a motorhome and found that a huge disadvantage being that when you get to where your going you either have to walk eveywhere, take a second vehicle with or pack every thing up and take the behemoth, I would consider a hauler has a similar disadvantage. Much easier in my opinion to take a trailer, unhook the trailer and do my running with the tow vehicle.
