How much work would there be? I currently have a 273. Would I have to switch K members? I'm sure this question has been asked many times but I couldn't find any answers when I looked briefly through the posts.

Thanks!

schumacher makes mounts so you can use your stock K-member. You wont have room for Power sterring. Schumacher also makes headers for BB conversions. Will need a bigger radiator. It can be done it just a question of how much $$

u will have room for power steering.thats why schumaker make headers for bb a-bodies.just use the schumaker mounts and notch your k-member for oil pump clearance.u can also use the log type mainfolds also.u may have to get them milled

im currently doing that exact swap, 383 into a 68 Valiant. Ive got a machine shop building the stroker and a trans guy putting together a 727. The car was origionally a 273 auto with power steering and brakes, ive already set things up for manual brakes and manual steering. ill be using the schumacher mounts and TTI headers. the rear has been changed to an 8 3/4 with 4.10's. ill see what happens with the stock radiator and electric fan. By the way, where in Omaha are you? i grew up there. whats the meaning of Glue man?

The E-Zest way is to stroke a 360 to 383 or even 406 ! Plus Its lighter and fits !

I never thought about that! That's a pretty darn good idea my friend.

Vitamin C- Its funny you ask. Glue man came from a nickname in high school. My buddies started a rumor about me eating glue and I just rolled with it saying it was true and it stuck (no pun intended). I grew up in Benson but now live in midtown area. Where did you grow up?

The big block swap is pretty simple. It's all a matter of what you want. Lots of ways to get the engine in there. Schumacher is NOT the only way. People have been doing this swap for many more years than they have been around. Lots of good tech and information at Big Block Dart.

Ah, Ok, I grew up in Papillion and graduated Millard. My family is in the meat / rendering buisness and started in south Omaha. Kind of in the "Glue Buisness" Thats what caught my attention.

I used a tubular K-frame made by CAP - costly, but all kinds of room for headers, etc.

Wow, another guy from Omaha and another guy with a 67-69 Valiant! What are the odds! Glad to have you here Glue Man!
A buddy of mine started a Facebook page for Omaha area Mopar nuts...check it out.

It's certainly easier to put a stroker small block in one of these.. if you are comitted to a BB using a 73-76 K frame makes the job a bit easier.. there is a post here or on Bigblock dart.com that shows you how to move the brackets back to make it near a bolt in.. but you still have the weight bias and header problems. With a later K frame it also makes it easier to put big bolt pattern brakes and better sway bars on if you are so inclined. And you get rid of the biscuit style mounts too. Not a big deal in any case.
I know a number of Mopar guys here in town and it never hurts to know another. Take care looking forward to seeing your project!

I did the swap in 8 hrs in my 67 Dart.
Not counting the plumbing.
This is after 5 other A-body swaps.
It is a easy swap.

Here's some pics to get you going.

Womanator...
Now that is a nice install.... sweet Dart it all sits in too. If memory serves, you wind up cutting the drivers(?) side mount off the late K frame and moving back a bit and welding it back on.. or is it both sides?

If the budget is big enough, you can take enough weight off the 383 to make the BB vs SB thing about even... I have to admit the big block sure does have intimidation value as well as visual appeal!

alan,
On this Dart I used the Schumacher Engine moubts.
All you have to do is cut down the engine mounts and drill a couple hole on the mounts

The one's you cut and move would be these

You can make a 440 as light as a /6 car if you wanted

One of the mags built a 67 Dart with a Stage 5 Hemi headed 440 years ago.. it actually wound up weighing something like 57 pounds LESS than the /6 car did.. ain't technology wonderful?
Dug up the build your own Big Block K frame article I was talking about..

The Schumaker mounts would be the way to go unless you are or know a good welder.. either way will get it done.

I'm a member over at Big Block Dart and they have a good tech section.
It tells you how and what you have to change to get the weight down on the car to be under /6 weight.

Go BB!!! Remember children, A+RB=FAST :D

I my self have a '67 Valiant 100 but its unusual in that its a factory Red with Red interior combo. I've only seen 1 other factory red Valiant & that was a factory pilot/advertisement car that was a Signet, 273 Commando 4 speed car. Its owned by another member on here. I'm putting a 413 4 speed in mine and have factory radio & heater delete parts for it too.

I also have a valiant (69) butternut yellow. Its got a 383/727 combo in it . Schumacher mounts,TTI 1 3/4 headers with TTI full 3 inch exhaust fit no problem. Mini Starter,103 torsion bars ,loker kickdown cable. It all fits in tight but nothing rubs anywhere.
