Ok i know theres already a thread started on here bout this but they get all jumbled up now if ur doing one then post up what ur doing .. speces and what not to help any one that mite be thinking of doing a turbo slant .. now i know bill will be here soon lol now lets see it bill heres the spot u know i would like to see it so show it and the rest of u to .. btw sticky :happy1: so some one can find it would be nice

I don't know what the deal is. We DO have a forced induction section. It doesn't say "Forced Induction V8 Only". There's already a ton of slant stuff in there too.

well to tell the truth i never looked i aint got the cash to do it lmao at lest with it here the slanters aint got to look all over lol

Get yourself a 2.5 mandrel U bend with about a 4" bend radii, weld it up to a flange and bolt to stock L6 exhaust. Make it come straight up between the steering box and motor mount. weld a T4 flange on the top and get yourself a turbo on top. Duct it to a Holley 2bbl on a super six intake with a stromberg to Holley adapter and make a carb hat from an aluminum Holley carb cover with a hole in the side. plumb the hot side straight back and down to the existing exhaust route. Use 2.5 for that too. Set wastegate for about 6-8 lbs and you wont need to mod carbs PVCR's or fuel pump. mount a cheap Ebay blow off valve (careful, the REALLY cheap ones seem to leak around the adjuster screw unless you O ring them). Pretty cheap if you score a turbo on sale. Celica CT-26 turbo is good size and are inexpensive to find as everyone dumps them for bigger ones. Go for it! (See forced induction for other 6 builds)

The very idea of a six cylinder outrunning their beloved V8 is so disturbing to a lot of FABO members, it seems like just posting such an opinion seems like an invitation to an argument, so I think to preclude all the animosity between the guys like me, who would rather pull out a V8 and replace it with a turbocharged /6, and the great majority, who seem offended by the idea (to the point of complaining to "managment" about the very IDEA,) I think the doc's idea has merit.

That would keep the non-believers' egos intact, and minimize the negative comments.

I think everyone would be happier, all around.

Good idea, Asa!!!

That's a great recipe for a low-buck /6 wake-up!!!

Gotta be a very cool (and reasonably-priced) way to get a /6-powered A body into the 14's.

Thanks for posting that. We'd love to see some pics...

That's what I did, and what a wake up it is!!! 6 psi winds up the lazy six pretty fast these days, unfortunately I've got to stay out of it down low so the clutch survives :burnout:
It's not all worked out yet and kinda cobbled together, but it's tuned safe enough to have some fun....you should see the looks on peoples faces  when I pass someone while the turbo is spooled up.

You have done EXACTLY what I think is a great idea! The thing with turbos, is, you can start out with a low-buck deal like yours, to see if it suits your fancy and go in steps to increase performance as your pocketbook allows.

I'll bet you were surprised at the spunk that little 6 displayed with such a small amount of boost. Those 225's are starved for air, and when you treat them to a heapin' helpin' of oxygen, they respond SO willingly...

Have fun, and keep us posted; you are the new poster boy for the turbo/6 movement on here...:hello1:

Thank God I don't have to worry about the Snow !!! It's getting my lazy azz up and going on the /6 build !! It's not like I don't have the majority of the parts already !!!:banghead::banghead:

Intake is quick mockup, not finished yet. Clifford 3x2bbl intake with stainless 4" plenum. I got recently individual throttle bodies that I'd want to use, I have to make a new plenum for those.

Bottom end has Wisecos, Carrillo H-profiles and head has 1,72"/1,5" valves. Cam will be ~225 at .050 and turbo something Garret GT40 sizing. These two are still at shopping list...

That all sounds like some really good specs. I do have a question about the induction: as hard as it is to get a correct fuel curve in place, on a turbocharged slant six, (or any engine, for that matter,) with the abundance of 4-bbl aftermarket manifolds that will accept a blow-through modifed Holley 4150 double pumper (say, a 650) why are you putting three carburetors on this engine? With 1 4bbl, blow-through modified (available at any number of suppliers,) it would seem far simpler, and with say, 25 pounds of boost, the performance advantages of the triple carb setup might be minimal.

If course, while I REALLY DO admire your "think outside the box" philosophy on running a triple carb setup, with its increased visual appeal (and, who knows, the flow characteristics may well be better than a 4bbl setup) it just seems like a lot of added complication to an already complicated project.

I hope it works out for you; it's certainally imaginative!!!

Turbo slant to a n/a v8 is apples to oranges, I seriously doubt that there is a forced induction slant that will run with a forced induction v8...just saying.....

I'm not going to run any carbs, its fuel injected. Individual TBs should have better driveability than single large throttle body. Same goes with fuel injection. Max power probably isn't any better than with carb, but i bet mileage, driveability, midrange etc are better. It's not going to be a race car, more like weekend cruiser that can beat bigblocks. And I like to think out of the box :) This one is made more like european turbo builds here. There was a 2,6 litre Volvo build with pretty same specs and they dynoed 560hp/660nm. We'll see what this little larger slant can do :D

Of course, you're 100-percent correct; it's all a matter of cubic inches and valve sizes, but there is this to consider: Most small blocks will collapse into a basket of broken pieces at 25 pounds of boost unless they are treated to "heroic" (read $$$$$$$) measures such as main bearing girdles, billet cranks and the like... whereas, the unusually-robust inherent infrastructure of a slant 6 is SO strong (OEM) that it can survive 30+ pounds of boost without all the shoring up of the "mainframe."

As you are aware, it was originally intended to be an aluminum engine, and apparently benefits from those original design parameters, many of which weren't changed when MA went to cast iron construction. That makes it a "natural" for forced induction, in my opinion.

That surely doesn't make a slant 6 the equal of a turbocharged V8, but it puts it closer, in the real world, I think. I do believe it's a viable alternative to a normally-aspirated small block V8 in terms of output/dollar spent, (if not ultimate horsepower.) Maybe in terms of equipment (the "hairdryer", and necessary equipment to make it work correctly) it IS apples and oranges, but in terms of dollars spent to go, say, 11.50, in an A body, it may be apples/apples.

Just sayin' II... :)

I hear you on the driveability issue; I have NO experience with fuel injection, but I'm sure you're right.

Sounds like a fun project to me!!! Keep is posted, please!!!

What are you guys gonna run for spark plugs? What's 2-3 steps colder than the NGK FR5N ?
Apparently NGK uses higher numbers for colder plugs but whenever I do a search for 7's or 8's I get all kinds of odd things from google...

I have yet no experience of my own, but another finnish turbo-slanter told that NGK PBR6FS has worked good. Better than 7. He has newer style head with small plugs, but heat range should be same.

Sounds like a fun project to me!!! Keep is posted, please!!!

I will do :)

:happy1::cheers:

Thanks for getting this forum going for us, doc!

I think it's going to solve a lot of problems for us dealing with differences of opinions RE: V8s vs. /6s. There probably won't be a lot of arguing going on here with regard to "what if," but rather, it can be a handy "how to" reference for people wanting to get more performance from their leaning tower of power, while retaining good driveability and engine life.

I think the turbo route is a good choice for people like that.

We'll see.

Thanks to Joey for making it a "sticky.":D

nice bill like i said if u ever get sick of it just hand over the keys lol

My racing partner might not go for that; he's got a lot of sweat equity in the body work... LOL!

I apologize for the poor quality of that picture... I'll get some better ones up soon!
