Was wondering if i can just get any 318 4 barrel and throw it on my 273 in my 66 dart. Or does it have to be a certain one? like intank and carb..

any Imput works!

Thanks and sorry for being a "Newbie"

As long as it is the 66 and newer 273 there is no problem. Try fo find a decent intake that matches the ports in the heads. Good luck.

If you're swapping a 2bbl for a 4bbl, you'll need an air cleaner that fits the new carb and 4bbl kickdown linkage if yours is an automatic. I'd stick with a low profile intake unless you plan on cutting a hole in your hood.

E-brock Performer has small ports that match up well on a 318, should work on a '66 273. I ran one for years with an 1850 Holley (manual choke, side hung floats, and the cheapest four barrel Holley offered, I think I payed 69 bucks for mine on sale) on the 318 in my 67 Coronet. Used to average about 19 MPG overall.
The Performer also has a spreadbore carburetor pad allowing the use of a Thermoquad with it's tiny primaries. Setup and tuned right, a Thermoquad might work really well for low speed, part throttle operation on something as small as a 273, and the adaptablity of it's air valve secondaries to a wide range of engine sizes is well known. After the demise of 340s and 360s in passenger cars, four barrel versions of 318s were offered from the factory with them before Mopar started using the GM Quadrajet.

If buying a manifold, I'd try for the good used LD4B intake. They're still available from time to time, and good flow. They really open up the 273, plus the original 4bbl air cleaner will still fit under the hood with no problems.

Unless its cam'd and sprung for a 4bbl, Sticking to a smaller 500-600 CFM Carb is about max fuel you could dump.

The edelbrock performer seems to be a pretty close duplicate to the smog edition 318/360 4bbl. I wasnt that impressed with it.

Well this is what I have. :/

Look down on the left front carb mounting ear. There will be a 4 digit number folllowd by an S. We can tell you what size the carb is, or you can just Google the number.

Dumping that Performer into the soup (carburetor cleaner) and/or bead blasting will get it looking good.

Nothing wrong with an AFB and that one looks to be in decent shape, might be worth carefully popping the top off to make sure the inside isn't all gummed up. Fairly simple to rebuild, if necessary, and should give good service once it's dialed in. Metering rods and jets are easy to change out if you even need to go that far with it.

I once destroyed one of the jets of one trying to get it out for a rebuild. Couldn't find a replacement at the time to save myself. Good thing I was stationed on a submarine tender when this was going on and friends with the guys in the periscope shop. They let me use a jeweler's lathe and turn a new one out of a little chunk of stainless. Worked like a charm.

My 1966 273 has the older heads (2465315, 2532080) but not sure why (I'm kind of a newbie too), but I do know that the bolt angles are different on the intake.

I'm not sure if some 1966 273's had the had the older heads but it might be worth looking at them if your valve covers are already off.

1964-65 heads are will have the numbers 2465315, 2532080
1966 will have 2536178,2658234

As long as that intake fits the heads it'll work fine. IMO, a 500 cfm carb would be great. If it is a 600, just take time to lean it out and tune it well. That actually is advice for both carbs, tune tune tune........

1966 will have 2536178,2658234?

Do i just open valve covers and check if the heads have that number. if so my intake will fit right in? :/

Thanks

why not just mock up the intake and see if the bolts line up when you bolt it in? I have the same intake on my 1966 273. If I'm not mistaken, (And usually am), if i does have the odd angle it will also have a different bolt size. Someone else here might have to confirm that though.

The most common head casting number for a '66 and '67 model 273 is 2658920. If it's a real early '66 it could still have the 2465315 heads that carried over from the earlier years. Of course, if they're not original, yours could have just about any small block heads on in so you'll just have to check to see what it is.
